SBC did not obtain the proper permits for constructing a 4-foot retaining wall and didn't get an engineer's stamp. The structure was built with design flaws, was not built with the proper materials, and not built to Howard County standards and specs. The facade of the hardscape developed major cracks within months after being built, and again in 2022 (twice within 3 years). Today, the entire structure is now bowing and has cracks throughout the wall. The 4-foot retaining wall should have been built with interlocking patio blocks (NOT 6-inch decorative block) and 4-inch daylight drains, Currently, the existing decorative wall block is literally only glued together. The owner of SBC, Brad *****, came out to my home on October 28, 2022, to inspect the wall, and have not heard from him since my proposal to correctly rebuild the wall. Hardscape and retaining walls are expected have a lifespan of 25 - 100 years. Total cost of project: $30,353.00. 60-month warranty per verbal contract. Resolution: Rebuild the wall to Howard County standards using the proper materials & specs. Honor 60-month warranty. Alternatively, refund the cost of the structure.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/12/09) */ Mr Duncan is clearly outside of any warranty terms and is forcefully demanding SBC to remedy work from 2019. All issues listed above from 2019 were improved to exceed Mr Duncans satisfaction and they were done so immediately upon request, back in 2019. :) Regardless of the fact that SBC has no legal obligation to Mr Duncan, we have continued to work with Mr Duncan and offered a reasonable solution 2022. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/12/09) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Mr. Crist verbally agreed to a 60-month warranty and does not want to honor that warranty. However, the warranty does not negate the fact that did not obtain the proper permits for constructing a 4-foot retaining wall, did not get an engineer's stamp, did not use the proper building materials, did not built to Howard County standards and specs, and was built with sub-standard quality. Today, the entire structure is bowing, and all of the blocks are separating. The 4-foot retaining wall should have been built with interlocking patio blocks (NOT 6-inch decorative block) and 4-inch daylight drains. The existing decorative wall block is literally only glued together. Hardscape and retaining walls are expected have a lifespan of 25-100 years. Cost: $30,353.00 for crumbling hardscape. Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2023/01/10) */ LC 01/10/2023 (BBB note)- BBB asks that the consumer provide a written copy of the warranty. Consumer Response /* (4200, 15, 2023/01/10) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The warranty was a verbal contract between both parties.

In July of 2018, SBC installed a rear patio at my residence. Shortly thereafter, the brick molding around the right front edge started to separate from the patio. SBC returned once and provided a patch repair using cement. After the initial patch repair, the brick mold began to separate again. In December of 2021, I called SBC and spoke to Wendy regarding my concern about the separating brick molding. Wendy said someone from SBC would be in touch. No one ever called me or emailed me. On 3-25-22, I called SBC and spoke to Wendy and who remembered my previous call in Dec-'21. Wendy ask that I take pictures and send those to her for the file. Pictures were sent on 03-25-22. To date, I have not heard from anyone at SBC regarding my issue. I would like SBC, who's motto states WE C.A.R.E. FOR OUR CUSTOMERS to make the necessary repairs so this problem will be resolved.
