June 2 2018 whc installed a new roof. I paid over 10,000 for a 50 year warranty. Immediately after installing the roof leaked. They wouldn’t fix until I contacted BBB. Now the same thing has happened but this time my bathroom is ruined and during rain events I can’t use my shower, bathroom. The co came out and admitted they need to replace not patch roof. I have not heard from them since my call goes without response.Business response

American Home Contractors salesperson (Tyler W*******) sold me on the idea of a ***** solar roof to which I agreed to but was skeptical - given how many really tall trees I have surrounding my home. Mr. W******* went on and on about prices changing by month's end and it'd be wise for me to lock in the price before that happened. Before I made the deposit, he assured me that I could always back out should I change my mind, there would just be a $2,500 deduction if materials have been ordered and site visits completed. After the threat of prices changing by month's end, I made a deposit of $13,098 to "lock in" said current price. However, my skepticism led me to get another opinion from another certified ***** roof installer who outrightly said I wouldn't make enough energy to justify the install (this installer didn't know I already had a price from someone else). I circled back with Mr. W******* and confirmed with him that since it's been almost 3 weeks since my deposit and no one has been to my house and he further confirmed that no materials had been ordered due to their crews being backed up the last couple weeks, I told him I wouldn't be going through with the install largely because of what the other vendor said and my overall skepticism. Mr. W******* then brought on his supervisor (Tyler G******) who then told me on a phone call that I would not be getting my deposit back regardless of whether or not they visited they site or materials were ordered because that's how the contract works. I reminded him that Mr. W******* told me of the $2,500 deduction if materials were ordered or work had been started but he said I wasn't getting back any of the $13,098.00.Business response

Our client signed the contract with American Home Contractors on September 28th, 2023. The deposit is non-refundable after the cancellation period. The cancellation period ends at midnight on the 3rd business day following the signing of the contract per terms listed on the contract and New Jersey State law. The client reached out to American Home Contractors on October 20th, 2023 asking for his deposit back. Unfortunately, that date was past the contract terms.Initial Complaint

James I*, Project Coordinator, came to the property and discussed my home's roof issue with me. On 8/21/2023 I signed the contract over email and paid the $100 deposit. The repair was completed just before 9/9/23; on 9/9/23 there was standing water on the repaired part because the roof section was flat rather than at an incline, which would have allowed the water to slide off the roof onto gutters. I emailed photos to Mr James Im and to Mr Ian D******* ** on 9/9/23. On 9/11/23 Mr. Ian D******* ** emailed me that the gutters would be installed on 9/12/23. I emailed him and asked that the gutters not be installed until the roof repair job was corrected. Later on 9/11/23 Mr Ian D******* ** emailed me to say that "let me look into this and get back to you." It is now 10/3/23 and Mr Ian D******* ** has never gotten back to me. Mr James Im* called me after I emailed them both a SECOND TIME for a response. Mr. James I* said he'd consult with his project team and get right back to me. Mr James I* has not gotten back to me. Resolution: Either commit to finishing the job correctly or cancel the charge minus the deposit so that I can hire a more reputable company to correct the job and COMPLETE the job by installing gutters, which were removed by American Home Contractors.Business response

I am having issues with AMC-V (American Home Contractors of Virginia). The main issue I'm having with the company is they are not going all the way with the underlayment to the ice and water shield. There's a small roof section above my windows that they did a poor job on. I had a view of it from out my window from the 3rd level and saw this issue. After seeing this type of workmanship, I'm not certain they went all the way to the edges on the main roof of the house. I would like someone to confirm the roof was installed properly and file a complaint against this company. On the day of the roof installation, which was May 1, 2023, it was misting that day when installing the roof. I was told it's not good to install a roof on a day that has rain or moisture in the air due to moisture getting trapped in the roof. Therefore, I am unconcerned about the longevity of the roof as well. I am concerned if water has been able to penetrate the area that was not covered in underlayment (I believe that is the name of the material) The whole reason I went with this company is due to being told I would be informed throughout the entire process. I was told I would have access to seeing what all was being done via pictures of the process. They finally sent pictures 7 days later. The pictures they sent were not showing the entire process; no pictures of the underlayment being put down and mostly pictures of "finished" project. Also no one even contacted me to discuss needing plywood replaced and I was home during the entire process. They claim they came out Saturday (5/6) however, they did not call or inform us in any way they were coming and we were not home at the time. The ring camera shows whom looks to be the project manager cam that Saturday and was taking pictures of the home however, there was no crew insight I receive an invoice not long after he left. They are now claiming they will come out to fix the roof ( the part that I showed them via a picture that the underlayment was done in correctly) on the 11th. However, I can not get Ricardo to confirm a time or even a respond to my text message or returned call. I had previously missed his call when he called today (5/9) and called him back within minutes but he did not answer so, I sent a text. This seems to be the only issue they are interested in addressing as all my other concerns have been ignored. Another issue is the way they put up another material (Im unsure of the name but can be seen in picture). Also they are attempting to charge me for 6 pieces of plywood. Well, there were not 6 boards used, there were only 5 used .I do have video of the boards being unloaded (total of 6) as well as video of the crew taking away one new sheet. I have offered for them to view the footage but was denied wanting to see it as of now. All they have shown me is one piece of plywood with a #6 on it, which tells me nothing. So, I don’t feel I should be charged for board they did not use and feel this is the company lying and stealing from their customers. I've tried addressing this numerous times and they won't even acknowledge I'm ever saying anything. I've tried discussing via text and email. I've emailed Eddie, Vernon, and Katherine. I've called and asked to talk to a manager of AHC-V twice now and they claim someone will return my call. However, as of today 5/9/23 no-one has called other than the Project Manager (that I mentioned earlier wouldn't return my call or text) That is not whom I want to discuss this with since he has been ignoring most all my concerns. I want to speak to his manager or the owner of the business I also asked that 4 shingle packs to be replaced due to the edges being damaged upon delivery, which all were agreed upon. Only 2 of those were replaced. Four new ones were brought back to my home. However, when those 4 were dropped off, he only took 2 away (they were separate from the others). He left 2 of the damaged packs, I’m assuming because they didn't separate those with the other 2 damaged ones. After watching and reviewing the video, I believe they used those 2 damaged packets on my roof because I saw them go up on the roof. If the job was looked over by the project manager properly, these things could possibly have been avoided? However, he was only here once for a short time but was on the phone with his back to our home.He came a 2nd time to get pics when they were wrapping up. It has also been suggested to me to contact DPOR and an attorney. As of right now I have refused payment to AHC-V and would like to discuss this before taking other measures but it seems they aren't interested. I have called AMC-V and asked for a manager TWICE with no returned callBusiness response
