Back in Late February a bad snowstorm swept into *********, ******** and damaged the mast servicing my home. The public electric company (Consumers) came out to the home and physically disconnected power to the mast. Branches and debris was removed. Because power to the house was out and given the bitter cold and children in the home, i contacted Webster Electric. They scheduled an appointment 2 days later on the weekend (12/25/23) stating that it was $400 for the 1st 30min and $400 for each hour thereafter. The manager assured me that they would complete the work asap because they had many other people to attend to. I agreed given the dire need. When the work was completed they came back with a $2,200 dollar bill for 4.5hrs worth of work. When i complained they said oops they overcharged on the time and revised the bill to $1889.75 (3.5hrs labor + supplies). I had the mast installed for $300 roughly 4 years ago when we updated the electric for the whole house using a licensed ******** electrician. I have since spoken with several other licensed ******** electricians from the area. All have agreed that to remove the old mast and replace a new mast should have cost no more than $500-$600 **** even following an emergency. It should be noted that when the work was completed, it was sunny yet cold, and the area was easily accessible. I was advised by other electricians in the area that Webster Electric severely overcharged on both the hourly rate and the amount of time the job should have taken. I was advised that the job should have taken 1 hour (reasonable) and 2hours **** I am filing this complaint because during my conversation with Webster Electric they repeatedly stated i agreed to the charges and it was an emergency, warranting the high charge. I believe their charges are excessive and unwarranted. I also believe they overcharged others for this emergency, warranting an investigation.
