Do not use this insurance. We signed up with this company after agreeing on the quoted price. Without our knowledge, they sent somebody out to our house and invasively took pictures of each of our rooms. I had my entire family home and it was extremely uncomfortable. After they took the pictures within a couple of weeks, they told me that my quote had to be increased because of the value of my house. I live in a neighborhood. They were telling me my home value is almost doubled than what I could actually sell my home for. They increase my rate from $4500 a year to $6200 a year. I of course, did not agree with it so I canceled and found another insurance company. Auto Owners Insurance decided to keep almost $1500 and they didnt even have insurance for my home but a couple of months. It is a scam. They are scamming people and keeping their money.Review from REBECCA K

Eventually we were allowed to see the entire report, but not until January 21, 2025. We had just purchased the home in Six Lakes on November 19, 2024-We had and had only lived in the home for three weeks when we received notice that our insurance cancellation. We hired a Structural Engineer through Independent Bank before purchasing the home. The Engineer’s report told us that the bones of the home were good, the fieldstone foundation was sound. The agent told us we needed to trim a tree over the old garage structure and that we needed to put a guardrail around the front porch, which we were in the process of designing to fit the architectural style. Alpena Agency hired Mueller Services LLC out of New York to not only take photos, but to do an insurance assessment for them based on those photos. The Mueller Agent/photographer showed up on December 2, 2024. The agent parked across the street from my front door looking at his lap and then up at the door repeatedly. He lurked in front of my home on that deserted dirt road in an unmarked (no business logo) for 20 minutes before ever parking in my driveway or coming up to my front door. I was concerned about my safety, so I called the local Sheriff and was on the phone with the Sheriff’s Department when Mueller agent came to the door and said he was going to take the pictures for the insurance company, which he told me that I had agreed to when I signed on with the insurance company for the home-owners insurance. He took a few photos and left, never even introducing himself. My home-owners insurance was cancelled by Auto Owners Insurance through Alpena Agency, based on an inaccurate report that I was not allowed to even see until I started writing complaints to the Better Business Bureau several weeks later. The Mueller Report states several things that are untrue beginning with the descriptors: The home’s exterior siding is aluminum, not vinyl. The foundation is fieldstone, not concrete. I bought a brand new expensive car two weeks ago. My local insurance company, Farley Insurance in Murphy, NC got me uses with this company. Extremely upset with their incompetence, and deceptive service. I was hit from behind while my spanking new car was parked in a big city in a residential area. The police came, issued ticket to stoned adolescent whose fault it was. I tried to contact my insurance company Owners Insurance at night number and they hung up on me 3 times. I was needing advice on what to do as I was stranded without car in a big city that is so corrupt they can’t give police reports for 3-7 days. In am I tried again and some person call d fro outside the States asking me questions that were suspicious and said they hadn’t access to my policy info. I think the rude people at night number are committing a scam and possibly getting my personal info. My local insurance still hasn’t responded. Most distressed experience I’ve ever had.Auto-Owners Insurance Group Response

Thank you for the feedback on our after-hours claim reporting. We apologize that you had difficulty connecting with someone, and we will be looking into that. The number on your insurance card for our after-hours claim reporting is legitimate, however, the call center may have limited information, and so may need to ask some questions in order to get a claim started.Review from LeAnn B

Their billing mistakes caused them to unjustly put us in the category of failing to pay our home insurance when what really happened, is they took that payment and paid our canceled car insurance. Then when our home insurance skyrocketed we switched to another company with a one day gap. One week ago I received a bill for $127 saying it was past due and today I got a notice from a collection agency. We get paid every two weeks and I was planning on paying them tomorrow on pay day. This is unorganized on their end and harassing in nature. We would have paid the $127 had we known we owed that but had not received a bill until last week.Auto-Owners Insurance Group Response

I switched to Auto Owners car insurance in March 2024. I paid my annual premium in full $3800 to take advantage of the discount and have piece of mind of not having a monthly payment. In October 2024 I received a letter in the mail that my insurance was cancelled. They refunded me $171 dollars and that was it. I received the letter for the cancelation on October 18th that the policy was cancelled effective October 3rd. I called the insurance company and they told me they sent 3 notifications that I owed over $2600 more because I changed cars, removing a 2015 Genesis G80 and replacing with a 2018 INFINITI Q60. I didn't receive any mail from them, no email, no phone calls. I called my broker to find out what happened and they said they didn't receive any notification either. My broker went back to the underwriter and they said they would not make any effort to correct the mistake. No tickets, no accidents, no gaps in insurance or missed payments ever. Auto Owners is absolute trash. Don't get this insurance because any savings you think you're getting will be followed by drama, terrible communication and trash customer service. You will regret it, guaranteed!!Auto-Owners Insurance Group Response

Thank you for your correspondence regarding this case. Please see our response below. The policyholder’s concern is with the non-payment cancellation of their annual full-pay policy. After the initial policy payment was made, 2 additional vehicle policy changes were completed that changed the premium owed for this policy (Effective April 25, 2024 and May 3, 2024). The initial bill statement was sent to the policyholder on May 28, 2024, with follow-up statements sent June 24, 2024 and July 25, 2024. Due to the payment not being received, a cancellation notice was sent to the policyholder on August 26, 2024 advising that the policy would be cancelled if payment was not received by October 3, 2024. On October 9, 2024 the above policy was cancelled for non-payment effective October 3, 2024. All billing statements and policy materials were mailed to the address on file. USPS Mailing is not the only option for policy communication. We offer paperless email communication if that option is selected. We also have an option for the insured to enroll in the Auto-Owners Customer Center application. This option allows the insured to monitor billing, and access the policy information at any time. I hope this letter satisfies any concerns regarding the cancellation of the above policy. Thank you, Auto-Owners Insurance CompanyReview from Loretta W

I’d you have an accident, be prepared to have your vehicle to only be fixed partially. I was in an accident and filed a claim on my insurance with Auto owners insurance. They only approved a partial fix on the damage. Debris hit my car higher than I thought it should have. They fixed under the car, but they did not fix the body damage and would not approve for it to be fixed. They have told me that I can file another claim and pay an additional deductible in order to get it fixed even though it was the same accident.Auto-Owners Insurance Group Response

Would have given them no stars if that was an option. About $10,000.00 worth of damages (maybe more) and they sent me a check for $2600.00. Would never recommend.Auto-Owners Insurance Group Response

Awful company! Do not ever use this company! We have had auto and home insurance with them for about 2 years. Have had wind/storm/tree damage to one vehicle and our home. The vehicle was declared a total loss. The settlement process was unpleasant and unnecessarily stressful and prolonged due to undervaluation of our vehicle. The Homeowner claims are ongoing. Generalized failure to properly investigate and identify totality of damages. Don't want to pay. Had to get a lawyer and have complained to Insurance Commissioner. Even older less affluent people are entitled to have their house fixed. You pay premiums for a replacement value policy. This company wants to pay pennies on the dollar for the actual costs of repairs and make those payments in two payments...ACV and then the withheld depreciation once work is done. Contractors won't touch the job because of inaccurate insurance estimates relative to scope of work and associated repair costs for labor and materials. Want to replace a custom solid wood door w a cheap standard steel door. Want to reuse vinyl siding? Want to replace faced insulation w unfaced insulation?"Good Faith" is foreign to this company even though the law requires an Insurer to utilize this in all dealings with Insureds. Would give a zero rating to the company and the agent if I could.Auto-Owners Insurance Group Response

Thank you for the opportunity to respond. The branch reached settlements involving the prior auto claims. The branch investigated two separate losses involving wind damage to the Muse's home and has been communicating with the Muse's representation involving both claims. The branch also recently responded in writing to similar concerns in a formal venue outlining our position.Review from Valerie H

My son was involved in an accident with my truck, while in Kentucky. Auto Owners didn't get him a wrecker for 16 hours. When the insurance adjuster determined it was totaled, I was told they would pay off the remaining loan and send the money that was over the amount to me, it's been 3 months now, and I'm still fighting with them to settle this claim!! It should NOT take 3 months to settle!!!Auto-Owners Insurance Group Response

Auto owners is the worst customer service company I’ve ever seen. I had a cracked pipe in the wall. I called once I realized on July 6. It took 3-4 weeks to get the ultra incompetent adjuster it named Harrison g He said he was busy. Then as the leak progressed amd the mold progressed he wouldn’t give me the goa head to start fixing it. After two more months of delays he sent an “engineer “ that they pay to look at the leak I showed him. This clown then send the other clown a report saying that the he thinks it happened during construction. He knows that isn’t true. There’s no way it would have happened then. I would have noticed that. There’s also no way they can prove that. Then he calls me and tells me he’s not oking the claim and I’m basicallly on my own. Even though I have a 100 k in mold coverage. Complete joke of a company. I’m pulling all business from them. I have a large construction company. I’ll be pulling all that from them also. Don’t trust these guys. They looked for every reason not to pay out. I literally have the cracked pipe. That is a covered claim !!Auto-Owners Insurance Group Response

We appreciate the opportunity to reply to our insured’s concerns. The Company made several attempts to reach our insured and schedule an inspection at the outset of the claim. Unfortunately, despite our efforts we were unable to reach them. When our Claims Representative did connect with the insured, the damage was inspected, but the specific cause of the leak was not clear. We asked our insured for information from the plumber who did repairs and other documentation. We did not receive this information, so we hired an engineer to determine the cause of the leak in order to move the claim forward. Our decision on the claim was based on the findings of the engineer, however, our insured is welcome to present any documentation or evidence in support of his loss
