I’ve been a U.S. Bank customer for 47 years, starting with the savings account my parents helped me open in 1977 at the Zapp Bank in Saint Cloud, MN, which later merged with US Bank in the early 80s. I pride myself on being vigilant in protecting against fraud and identity theft. I’m also well educated in identifying email fraud etc. Despite this, someone walked into a Southern California US Bank branch and withdraw thousands of dollars from an account. The cash out ticket used to complete this transaction shows the date and account number added in one distinctive handwriting style, and my printed name and signature added with a different distinct handwriting style. Therefore, I suspect that the branch teller filled in part of the withdrawal slip. Also, the fraudster misspelled my printed first name, and then misspelled my last name in the forged last name signature. Despite this, U.S. Bank completed the transaction, giving the fraudster thousands of dollars of my money. Of course I quickly reported the fraud to U.S. Bank when I noticed the transaction using the U.S. Bank app I look at every day. I then took the next day off work and meet in person with a bank rep at my local branch here in MN. That was several weeks ago now. I also immediately froze my credit bureau reports and my Chex Systems report. I’ve yet to receive my money back. The money US Bank recklessly gave no questions asked to a stranger a thousand miles from my home address. U.S. Bank has the fraudulent transaction recorded on surveillance video. The circumstances and the overwhelming evidence irrefutably proves I bear no responsibility for the theft of my money. U.S. Bank is fully to blame. Yet their fraud claims department continues to delay, even sending me a letter asking me to fill out and mail back documents that have already been filled out and submitted weeks ago. Don’t trust this bank with your money. It’s a joke.Review from Stephanie Y

This review is specifically for the disgusting underwriting department of US bank. I opened a credit card with them and they approved me with a limit of only $500. I’m not a child and I have good income so this is totally ridiculous. Jeremy with underwriting sounded so incompetent I’m shocked he still has a job. I repeatedly asked for a credit limit increase only to be met with “this is the max limit they can offer.” No further explanation and UNABLE to give further explanation when asked. Either give a proper explanation or increase my limit.Review from Kane D

U.S. Bank has mishandled my credit card account, for the past 6 months, which has caused significant financial harm and hardship, and emotional distress. The issue began in June 2024, when I attempted a balance transfer to pay off a Citibank loan using U.S. Bank's 0% interest offer. They sent two balance transfers instead of one, due to a series of clerical errors on their behalf, including a stop payment being placed on the wrong check and just a lack of urgency/delays in resolving the issue. Despite multiple calls, in-branch visits, and communications with U.S. Bank representatives and executives, the problem persisted. They even went a step further to let me know they were going to close my account, and I had to pay the balance in full within 30 days, because they deemed it too risky. I did get a glimmer of hope, when I received a letter assuring me that the erroneous balance transfer would be reversed and my account reinstated. It did, however they initially did not want to honor the original offer. Thankfully this was resolved. As I thought everything was done and over with in September 2024, my credit score had dropped over 120 points due to the unresolved balance transfer issues, because of this U.S. Bank decided to reduce my credit limit. This led to my credit score further decreasing by over 200 points. This decline has impacted my financial standing, including refinancing opportunities, credit card accounts, and potential future loans. The emotional toll of this situation has been immense, affecting my mental health, work performance, and caused financial hardships. Despite being a loyal U.S. Bank customer for over a decade, with a history of responsible account management, U.S. Bank has failed to take responsibility for their actions.Review from Peter A

US Bank was mostly OK. We were customers at Union Bank when US Bank bought it. We quickly found that the interest rate on our savings was nearly zero, so I closed my account. Interestingly, the online rate was significantly higher (3 or more percent, I believe) so I opened an online account. As interest rates declined in general, US Banks rates declined faster than other banks so I went to the branch to close my account. This is where the real problems started. I was told that if I closed my account, I would lose all my accrued interest (about $10). I'm used to banks settling up the accrued interest and paying it at closing, but that was not the case at US Bank. Once I learned US Bank wanted to keep my $10, I said I didn't want to close the account, just make a withdrawal. The teller gave me a form to sign saying I authorized closing my account. When I explained I said I didn't want to close the account, he seemed confused and maybe unbelieving. The problem was he already closed the account. After calling someone more in the know, he said they would issue me a check for $9.74 to be received in the middle of the next week (this took place on Friday). Not too surprisingly, I never received a check. All that story and reassuring was just a blatant lie. I'm glad to be totally separated from this bank that is willing to lie to me to get $10.Review from KEVIN D

DON"T get the Kroger credit card, it's a scam! Kroger advertised that with the credit card you would receive $0.55 back per gallon at the pump with 100 fuel points from purchases, good for a year. I received the card (issued through US Bank) and the first fill up I did receive the $1.55 off the first fill up (I had 1000 purchase points) but every subsequent fill up I only got an extra $0.05 off. Contacted the store, they referred me to US Bank. Called US Bank, they said that that wasn't an offer they were aware of. The (rather rude) customer service lady put me on hold for 5 minutes, came back on, said she would have to file a report, I should hear something in a month, and hung up. I didn't even have an opportunity to ask why I had received the discount the first fill up or say anything. Will be cancelling the card, and shopping elsewhere.Review from Rick R

I converted dollars to colones for a trip to Costa Rica. First they want to add a "small amount" fee if it is under $300. I went just over to avoid the fee. Even though there is supposedly no fee, the conversion winds up between 10% and 15% of the value. No idea how they do that, but they get their money one way or the other.Review from Clayton F

Worst Bank EVER! I opened a checking account and the teller didn't put in all the correct info needed so they froze my account without notice and remind you that i am a truck driver and was out of town and didn't have any access to my own money, thank goodness for my capital one credit card to purchase food and drinks while out of state. They also talked me into opening a rewards credit card with them the same day I opened my checking account and after getting aproved and receiving the credit card and spending the certain amount of money to get the rewards money, they closed the credit card account down without notice about 2 or 3 wks later and they kept our rewards money that was in the account. This was a big hit to my credit report after i just built it up. I do NOT recommend this bank at all!! They are VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I would give them a Zero ?? if I could.Review from Katie C

Worst company to deal with. First I was sent a card for unemployment that I did not request, then only received 2 out 3 payments after waiting over a month. Then after calling I was told it would take 45 days to receive the 3rd payment?!?! AND then received another card from them. And either the bank or Cava, but transaction amounts were changed and held for 3 days. This company seems suspicious and should be looked into.Review from Honey B

We've been a credit card holder for over 20 years. Paid off a car loan with them as well. For 20 years our available credit has been stuck at 500.00.. We both have credit scores that are over 800 and our home is paid in full! I called them and asked them to update our credit line, and they gave us another 500.00! This makes a total of 1,000! This is a laughing JOKE! This Bank is Horrible, Insulting, and a Low Blow to us worthy credit holders. Pass this crooked bank up.
