This credit union deserves 1 star, I deposited a cashiers check into my account at St ********************************************* on 8/23 through a shared branch in my state. I was told that the funds would be on hold for 5 business days, today is 9/11, if anyone can count, I have yet to receive my funds in the account. I spoke with ***** and was asked to fax over a copy of the cashiers check and she would try to get the funds released. After a brief conversation with ***** (Branch Manager) this afternoon she dropped the ball and in return, I still do not have my money. I would not recommend this credit union to anyone because they are very unprofessional, they hire anyone and they are always under staffed. I was even told that the cashiers check would be held until 9/17. I am just not understanding.St. Louis Community Credit Union Response

St. Louis Community Credit Union apologizes for your recent member service experience. Financial institutions across the country have been experiencing longer clearing cycles, in addition to there being a significant increase in check fraud activity. It can take days, or even weeks, to discover that a check is bad. Check holds are placed for both the protection of our members and the Credit Union. The holds allow us, and the institution paying the funds, time to validate the check. What your complaint fails to mention is that to assist you with obtaining the funds more quickly, our Risk Manager reached out to the paying institution. The check was payable to yourself, and from yourself. The paying bank was not able to validate the check you had deposited. Additionally, they stated they did not have any account in your name on record. With this information, we determined the check to be possibly uncollectable and an extended hold was placed on the item. In the future, you can avoid holds on your deposits by encouraging individuals and business entities paying you to use electronic payment solutions such as direct deposit, Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments, online transfers, wire transfers and peer-to-peer services. These types of payments are typically available the same day they are received. Again, we thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We value your membership and can assure you we are working to create a better service experience with regards to check deposits. If you would like to discuss this any further, please feel free to reach out.Review from Ra-ina E

Ms. ****** we are very sorry you feel this way. We have attempted to work with you on multiple occasions to resolve your account issues, including your delinquency amounts due to the Credit Union. While we value your membership, it is against policy as well as impairs the integrity of the credit reporting system to remove negative items from credit reports, when they are reporting correctly. If you wish to further discuss your account, you can reach out to a *********** Representative at ************.Review from Gloria G

My ********* submitted an application for a business acquisition loan for $55,000. We received an e-mail within a few days from ******** asking for documents. We replied a couple of days later with some questions but did not hear anything back for a week so I went into the branch (Gravois) to speak to someone. ****** was able to answer the questions for me, which I appreciated but he did seem annoyed & before leaving, informed me "to make an appointment" for next time. He also informed me that ******** was on vacation. Why did he not give his workload to someone else to handle while he was away? Not sure. I should have left right there and then but let it go and told myself things happen sometimes. I go *********** the documents needed to ******. A couple of weeks later, we get an e-mail informing us we need to open a CD account with at least $45,000 in it. My first thought was, if I had that type of money to put into the business, why would I come to you for a loan? WE, as in my *********** were trying to figure out if there was another way around it. They did not help with other ways at all. We brought up an appraisal & were told "could take 4-8 weeks". I'm not sure why I wasn't told this when I was asking all those questions in the beginning? At this point, it should not be taking this long to get a loan or to hear from someone. Eventually we settle with the $45k in the CD account. We were told by ****** to come in the morning to see ******. We go in, open the account & go home. I come home to check my e-mails & see that we received an email from ******** the night before around 7. ******** email said we need to have $56k in the CD account instead of the $45k. We literally just got back from the bank & NO ONE, ****** or ******, said anything. They just took the check. I was LIVID. We agreed on $45k & now we're changing it? I don't even want to get started on the expierence I had get our money out without penalties. Horrible ************************ service.St. Louis Community Credit Union Response

**************, Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention and we certainly appreciate the feedback regarding our business lending process. After reviewing your loan request, it appears terms were changed due to incorrect or incomplete information provided on your original loan application. As the circumstances around documentation and information provided on an application change, so does the terms of the offer. We apologize that we were unable to come to terms that were agreeable for you. We would also like to acknowledge your frustration with the service provided and will work on our communication. SLCCU is grateful for the opportunity to offer business loans to our community and loyal members. While we do our best to accommodate lending needs, unfortunately, we are not able to approve every loan. We sincerely hope you can find a lender better suited to your needs.Review from Nicole D

On 4/5/24 I deposited my state tax return, and it was placed on a 5day hold. I checked per government policymakers the check should be available by close of next business day. SLCCU has alway placed a hold on my check for 5days or more, The even hold cashiers checks. I cashed a cashiers check and walked out the bank, a month later another cashiers check same bank new teller check to be placed on hold. So its always to the teller transgressions. I been told that they cant remove the 5-day hold. This bank has never been beneficial for me as a customer, other than the freedom loan have never helped me financially on anything. I bought a new car and my bank of 10 years or more couldnt finance me for it. I applied for a home loan and my bank couldnt help. I have come to the conclusion that this bank policies are not in place for the community as they claim. It saddens me that I have been unable to use my own bank that receives my direct deposits for my needs. I have been working for the entire time and I cant get more than 500 dollars in credit from them. Im ****** because I have to pay check fees to get my money right away but I have a bank account with a bank who doesnt trust its patrons, Yet I have trusted them for years with my money.St. Louis Community Credit Union Response

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. SLCCU has reviewed the *** check deposit in question from March 5th, 2024. As outlined in our account agreement, the first $225 from the deposit was available on the first business day following the day of deposit. The remaining funds are typically available by the second business day unless there are recent NSFs or delinquencies on the account. While check holds are in place to protect our members and the credit union from loss, we follow Regulation CC when determining holds. State or local government checks are released by next business day if deposited in person with one of our tellers. We are also sorry to hear about your lending experience with SLCCU. Please consider visiting one of our branches to do a credit check up. This will better educate you on what is on your credit that would prevent any approval. We also offer things like our Credit Matters loan to benefit members with limited to no credit. We exist to increase the standard of living and better the lifestyle of our members, our staff, and the communities we humbly serve.Review from LASHAWN L

I have went to the branch office on Olive a couple of months ago to get my name added to my mom's account. PER the branch they could not accept the original notarized documents because it had x's where my mom initial should have been. i added my mother initial on the documents which they had been altered. i understood the process. They requested a new notarized document which is no problem except my mother is incompetent and is on hospices . My question to stl community credit if my mom is in competent (unable to sign her name) please advice what would be acceptable. Per ***** the COMPLIANCE MANGER -*****, said i need to get a court order. i ask her if the hospices social worker could write something up or if she could see my name & my son name as her beneficiary . she said, she could . No , I have to get a court order. it is bad enough i have to literally see my mother go from bad to worst each day. i can not get any help from the bank.Review from Senta J

The bank is holding money and sending unauthorized debits to my account. I have been watching my account closing. Woke up this morning and a debit 92.67 was debit. It seems that they are trying to overdraft my account. I received refund last month for the same practice. Now they are saying ******** sent a debit payment threw my account on the 14th and on the 27th. ******** didn't do that. The bank did hoping my account would overdraft. I've filed a dispute which will take up to 90 days. I left a bag review last week and now this. I'm over there bad practice against people and overdraft fees. That they purposely create.St. Louis Community Credit Union Response

St Louis Community Credit Union (SLCCU) exist to increase the standard of living and better the lifestyle of our members. The accusation described is not something we would be a part of. While we understand ********************** frustrations, the Credit Union does not have control over a merchant processing a transaction. However, we are here to aid in any discrepancies between our members and merchants under the guidance of ************************ once notified by ****************** of the error made by *******, the Credit Union immediately launched an investigation. While we process this charge back with *******, on behalf of ******************, SLCCU provided a provisional credit to her account the next morning. Additionally, any overdraft fees caused by the error on Ms. ******** account would have also been refunded. ******* has 90 days to respond to the chargeback. If ******* responds, we will send the response to ****************** and can discuss it further at that time. We understand what a hindrance this can be, but we are here to help. If you have any questions or would like to know more about how chargebacks work, please give us a call.
