OVER CHARGING and INCORRECT BILLING I was charged for services I did NOT ask for or informed about and my Urinalysis charges came up to over $1500. The billing has been historically a mess and wrong, sadly this has NOT been corrected!Review from Rodney H

My wife and I had CY scans of our heart. Our Primary physician recommended it Because my wife was taking prescribed calcium pills. Our doctor told us our insurance didn't cover it, but the cost was only $200 or so. On March 13th, 2024, we had the outpatient procedures at *********. Prior to the procedure a finance person came into the room and said our insurance doesn't cover the ***Body scan. She went on to say that it was $200.00 per scan but if we paid today it would only be $175.00 I paid for both and we proceeded to have the ** scan. 30 days later my wife and I each received a bill from SSM for an additional $261.00 a piece. I give them Zero stars.Review from Jared R

SSM Health, ********* *************** (*********). I went in for an annual physical (Wellness visit) which my health care provider paid. However, SSM also charged me for an outpatient / office visit. After 2 months of phone calls and emails I have gotten nowhere with this fraudulent charge (about $200). The notes and paperwork from the visit list things that happened over 10 years ago and/or things that were discussed in previous wellness visits. I did not present any new issues or ask any questions. Nor did the doctor state at any time that the discussion was becoming part of a 2nd appointment. The charge is fraudulent, but I am tired of dealing with it. SSM gets an F for this one.Review from Joseph S

i no longer want to hold this inside. I was biten in the face by a pitbull maybe 2016. I went to St. ****** and the staff instantly ASSUMED the dog bite was done by a "police" dog. It was not a police dog bite, but the conversation made me feel in danger by the racist staff statements. So i walked out of the hospital. ONLY to be chased down by a hospital employee named ****. **************** showed up, placed me in cuffs, drug me BACK into the hospital and cuffed me to a bed in a locked room. For over 5 hours i sat there bleeding from the face with no treatment or help. I was NT under arrest and no crime was committed. Non the less, i sat there cuffed to a hospital bed in a locked room inside of a hospital...not a jail. I attempted to leave that hospital because i became afraid of the staff and their statements of racism. NOW i refuse to even drive down ******* road. As far as i am concerned, i will NEVER EVER go to another hospital again at all. They will surely remove my freedom or my life. Before i was allowed to leave the hospital, the hospital admin came to speak to me. I explained to her what i just went threw with tears in my eyes, and blood STILL rolling down my face from the untreated dog bite. This white lady looked me square in my face and says, "Oh, Well that never happened." But i was still handcuffed to the bed. FYI, the scar remains prominent right in the middle of my face. They never did help me AT ALL. I refused then and now, to enter another hospital for any type of treatment after that. I believe in my heart that i will not walk out healthy.Review from Jodi F

To get the adequate care you need for a terminal patient is impossible. By the time you get it it is too late. You are constantly redirected to another line or facility. It is unethical care.Review from Lynn S

Billing / Payment Plan Last year, 2022, I requested a payment plan through my medical provider, which I thought should have been winding down. Starting in July 2023, I had more medical costs and realized I have not received a statement. Yet my monthly payments had not stopped. I grew suspicious that new costs were being added to my payment balance. Upon checking, that is exactly what was happening. The problem with this would be, I have had trouble with SSM health and billing in the past, so I do not have confidence that it is accurate. Adding these costs directly to a payment plan does not give the patient the chance/opportunity to approve it. One could be paying for services the insurance company has denied and the patient does not need to pay for. There are so many things wrong here and feel this is not a best business practice. I like the medical staff at SSM Health. The stars I am leaving only have to do with this situation.Review from Kelsey D

The long and short of it is that I was misdiagnosed by one of their Freeport NP's that resulted in a month of taking precautionary measures that were both expensive and inappropriate, and charged for medical equipment I didn't receive. I was seen in March of 2023, I did not receive my first bill until Mid-May 2023. I called and informed staff both at the clinic I visited and in their customer support team that I was charged for things I didn't receive, both staff members I spoke to told me they documented my complaint and sent it where it needed to go/put it in my chart while I was still on the phone with them. I waited the amount of time both staff members suggested to see the changes posted to my account, and the changes never occurred. In fact, the "note" or "change" that both staff members told me they made was not there when I spoke to the next representative, despite everyone having the same system under the same organization. I received my final notice to pay this week and unfortunately, had to pay for items I didn't receive fearing that my balance would be sent to collections. Not only did SSM Health rob me of my health and time, but they also literally robbed me, by making me pay for items I NEVER received. I will never recommend SSM Health, and I will strongly discourage anyone from using them, especially in their urgent care capacity.Review from MJ R

Not impressed and plenty of room for improvement. There seems to be a large disconnect between their billing workqueues/accounts and the call center that reaches out to to patients/guarantors about outstanding balances. If you have an active MyChart account, SSM now allows you to set up payment plans via the MyChart portal. You are able to easily set up a payment that works for your situation and then automatically drawn an account of your choice (without actually speaking or meeting with a Financial rep). I had set this up for a balance on my child's account that stemmed from a Lab visit (hosp bill) that occurred on Feb 2023. So far the payments have been coming out of my chosen account on the 1st of the month with no issues. On 6/15/23, I received a phone call from SSM's call center where they wanted me to pay off the remaining balance on the account (nevermind that the account had received payment, as scheduled, on 6/1/23). When I asked the representative if this was an account balance that had a payment plan tied to it, she was unable to answer that question. She was very professional, but it's very clear that the information she was working from was limited and that it didn't matter that I was actively paying on that balance. She shared that after I confirmed the information of what outstanding balance this was, that I could contact their payment services at ************* Overall, this is just poor service. As someone with knowledge of how this works on the backend (Epic software, Call Center exp, former SSM Health rep, etc.), there is no reason why SSM should have their reps pressuring guarantors to settle balances when there are active payment plans in place. This info should be available/filterable for their call reps, so they can focus on accounts where no payment has been collected AT ALL. Do better SSM. Posting here for general awareness.
