April 2024, my husband and I entered into an agreement with ****** (Art) for him to complete some renovations to our home. My husband is disabled, so the purpose of the renovations was to add a Master Bedroom Retreat on the 1st floor of our home to avoid my husband having to go up and down the stairs, an expansion of our current living room and kitchen renovations. Art communicated with us almost daily at the beginning of this process, but that suddenly changed once we paid him the $10K he requested as an initial deposit to start the renovations plus an additional $6K to complete the kitchen renovations sooner than expected due to our kitchen sink needing to be replaced. We paid Art $16K on May 14, ****************************************************************************************************************************** our kitchen. Once we paid ****** these funds, he advised that the next step would be for him to obtain a builder's permit to start the project. The application was submitted for him to get the builder's permit, but he ran into a roadblock with the city and was not able to obtain the builder's permit. We tried for several weeks to arrange a meeting of some sort with Art and his architect to discuss other possible options that could be done to satisfy the city requirements for the builder's permit. After countless unanswered calls and texts to Art with no responses from him for weeks at a time, my husband finally decided it was time to end this nightmare with Art. Since I've advised Art of this, he agreed that he would gather the total dollar amount he has put into this project and give us our money back for what he hasn't used towards the project. After advising that he would give us the remainder of our money back, *** stopped answering any and all of our calls/texts...he completely ghosted us. This has been a nightmare that I pray nobody else experiences at the hands of this SCAMMER. We will be seeking legal action in regards to this matter.

The contract was signed on 3/21/22 by both parties for renovations. I paid him on 3/17-$15K, 3/22- $15K, and 4/13-$15K by check. He said he needed a draw to continue each time he asked for money, the last time, I said I wasn't giving any more until more work was completed. During the initial phases of working with him and his architect, he quoted me a price of $50-55K for the project, later coming back with $65,625.55. He stopped working on the renovations twice. The first stop in July 2022 with a return in January 2023, stating that he was working on other projects. The second stop was April 2023. Throughout this time frame, I was consistently calling and texting only to receive a return call from time to time or text. The last telephone contact was initiated by him at the end of June sharing that he was going to come and finish the inside project once he returned from vacation after the 4th of July. I waited about 2 weeks after his return and called him only to get his voicemail again. It is a 5-room home, kitchen, living room, hallway, 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. He has only completed the kitchen and living room. Some of the items he used looks like it has been left over from other projects, for example the light switch covers are not the same throughout the "finished rooms." The 1st bedroom, bathroom and hallway are all partially completed. The new bathtub/shower is inoperable, and the side of the bathtub is scratched up from the cases of ceramic tile stacked on it. The other 2 bedrooms and bathroom has not been touched. I personally paid for all my new appliances, hanging light fixtures over the island, ceiling fans, bathroom vanity and light fixture. I've known Art for over 20 plus years, we were friends, and I trusted him. He has always wanted to complete renovations on my home. Once I paid my home off and pulled out some equity, I shared with him what I wanted, only to have him breach the contract and run off with my money, like a complete stranger.
