Met Cody E****** through General Contractor- GC. During build, drawings were incomplete, quotes given with a lump sum dollar amount with no details, given custom stain colors which never matched floor sample provided. Was repeatedly told by GC he was the best and would get a quote breakdown, which never happened. Cody received $14,291.20 through the GC. As months went on, nothing improved. No projects started and we requested a refund, he refused. Nowhere in any quote/paperwork stated there would be no refunds or design fees. We thought a solution would be to have him make cabinetry for the powder room, laundry room, and master closet. As well as office barn door and file cabinet. Cody was provided detailed hand drawings for each project. On 2/24/22 installed laundry room base cabinets only, no doors, drawers, shoe molding/trim work. One base unit was built wrong, leaving a visible raw unfinished edge. Powder room floating cabinet only, no drawers, front panel, or lower shelf. Laundry room lower cabinets had to be repainted as the color did not match and no sample were given prior to install. On 5/9/22, laundry room base cabinets only reinstalled. On 6/8/22, laundry room uppers, doors, drawers and supplied hardware installed. On 6/20/22, texted unfinished list for laundry room-no crown or shoe molding, trim work, drawer boxes not fastened in back, missing shelves, bumper pads and soft closures need adjusted. Powder room drawer boxes made incorrect. Vanity trim pieces needed. In June ’22 moved in with no closet. In Oct ’22 finally got the unfinished (no tops) cabinets for the closet. Based on completion time, we decided to have another company finish and install the closet. Communication has been ignored. 4/27/23 email advised Cody of the incomplete items. Delivered barn door hardware to his shop Nov ’22. Two attempts to pick up hardware have resulted in no one knowing where it is. Requesting hardware be returned, powder/laundry room finished and $7,000 refunded.

The complaint and information provided within is inaccurate leaving out key details which are relevant to the project and timeline.

I am rejecting this response because: The information provided IS accurate. To give more information, during the initial stages of laying out the cabinetry, the process bogged down and stalled.  Months went on with little to no forward progress. Being new to the area and trying to keep the house moving, money was given to the GC on 3-12-21 for a cabinetry deposit.  In July ’21, another GC was hired to finish our home which required us to rework many things due to poor workmanship and inspections. At that point, the cabinetry project had been dragged out and we had BOTH spent an enormous amount of time on it. Cody had not physically started any projects and we were not comfortable working with him.
Through the new GC, we were introduced to a cabinet company which built/installed the kitchen, pantry doors, master bathroom, main bathroom, and finished the master closet without any issues. Because Cody would not refund the money, we had two choices, seek legal action, or try to work with him.
At this point, we are not sure what details and timelines are relevant. Cody was given over $14,000 and to date has not completed any part of the rooms or started the barn door and office cabinet. He has had over a year and every opportunity to complete and has chosen not to. Also, the supplied barn door hardware has not been returned.  The amount of work he has provided is not $14,291.20.
