RCS Kitchen and Bath was hired in June 2021 to remodel our kitchen and removal a wall which we were assured was not a load-bearing wall by the owner, Mr. ***** ******* with the project completion before Thanksgiving 2021. A 30% payment was due once construction started, however during demolition it was confirmed that the wall was indeed load-bearing and additional steps would have to be made at an additional cost. We agreed to the additional cost only if Mr. ******* could confirm that his company, RCS would be able to handle this added portion of the job. Once again, a 30% payment was due to start the demolition of the wall. After receiving new diagrams from the engineer RCS proceeded to dig into our foundation. RCS did not follow the plans and compromised the integrity of our foundation. After the city inspected and failed RCS the engineer came back and also could not believe the major mess RCS had done. My husband and I gave RCS one last chance to make things right by giving them the chance to repair the foundation and continue the remodel job if they assured us they could handle it. In December 2021, after many failed attempts to communicate with RCS, Mr. ******* was informed RCS services were no longer required and reimbursement would be required. January 24, 2022 a formal letter requesting a $9,850 refund was delivered (and received by Mr. *******). The invoice only included the minimum for repairs of the foundation and the monies already distributed to RCS. They were also informed that if legal action is pursued, the invoice would include damages incurred to the surrounding areas, expenses incurred due to the extended period without a kitchen, material damages due to being in storage, etc. We have had several written communication from Mr. ******* at RCS promising to repay us but needing a bit more time. It has been five months we have not received a refund nor any further communications with an estimate on a repayment date.

November and December 2021. We hired this company to remodel our master bathroom. We were somewhat happy with the initial outcome, until a short time passed and we noticed a floor tile is popping loose, a drain under one of the sinks was leaking, and a whole wall moves, and the 3/4 round was not installed in the closet. Today a specialist went under our home to detect where water was coming from. He discovered the master shower has NO plumbing under the house. The shower has been draining for 3 months under our home. In addition to unfinished and shoddy kitchen cabinet installation, crooked doors, missing trim and 3/4 round on kitchen floor, now the electric work we paid him separate for the kitchen is not working correctly. Additionally, the pantry shelves were not installed. This company promised us a beautiful outcome to our projects. We have emailed requests to come and finish the work to no prevail. I would not recommend RCS kitchen and bath to anyone. I have many photos to prove the disaster he left in our home.

    Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/04/08) */ Our business pushed back jobs in order to work on hers even working on Dec 24 & the 26 in order to please this customer. She was told that due to a prior commitment that we would be back in 3 days to finish work. She was happy with that. She constantly changed up work. We did everything she asked and answered all of her questions. We did several additions at no charge. A pocket door is not a structural wall and you can expect slight movement because of construction of the studs that cover the door opening. She was aware of this as it was explained to her when she asked. She ordered sub-par materials to be used to cut costs. She provided plastic parts and we only use brass for drains. There was no missing trim. She needed smaller crown molding in order to use the trim which she wasn't aware she had ordered. It was decided by the customer and her husband not to use the trim. The plumbing was complete. We found no evidence of leaking or missing plumbing. We were under her house when the shower was washed out and many times after while working on the kitchen. We were even under her house while people were using the shower and there were absolutely no leaks. As far as things that were left undone, she cancelled the contract in writing and said she no longer wanted our company to come back and lowered what was owed due to other persons working on the job. The kitchen was not yet complete when she cancelled and she was aware of that. The only things remaining was a missing 3" drawer front for a spice rack and 1 piece of toe kick material. She ordered the hardware but it was not on site when she cancelled the job, however, we had pre-drilled for the hardware. We went above and beyond to please this customer to no avail. After more than a month of waiting for payment, we put a lien on her property after which she filed a complaint and then wanted our company to come back out. We have already adjusted payment but we are still owed for work that was complete.
