I bought a 30 by 45 metal building on 7/15/13 and according to my contract the metal on the building has a 25yr warranty on it from rusting or discoloration! Well I was told to call ***** in the warranty department about the roof on both sides of a a frame roof is almost rusting thru! I talked to ***** and they are called diamond doors now! But she asked me to send her a picture of the contract I did! A picture of the roof where its rusting and I done that as well!! I done that on 1/18/22 and several other times ale the way to 11/18/23 and Ive called and called and emailed I know 5-6 times to see when I could get my building fixed! They sent me a contract with certified drawings I checked with the county and I didnt need the so they sent me another contract without all the drawings and the first contract said the roof was supposed to be vertical and they sent the second set with it horizontal metal roof so thats why its rusting and discolored is there anyway you can help me with this? I do have all my paperwork and contracts and everything!Business response

After contacting ***** about the claim, she stated that she has submitted the warranty claim to the sheet metal manufacturer on 3 separate occasions and have not received any validation on them replacing the metal. We have forwarded the pictures to them that were sent to us with the warranty information and nothing has been done in the past. After receiving this complaint we have had the owner contact them and they are refusing the claim saying the metal was not cared for as per warranty states. The owner has agreed to replace the panels at our expense in a horizontal manner as to what the customer originally paid for. Weather the metal is installed horizontal or vertical is not the reason for the metal rusting. We will agree to replace it at our cost for the horizontal roof, if the customer wants to pay for the metal to be installed vertically which would be $1825.00 additional then we will install vertically. When it is installed vertically you have to have rows of hatrail, ridgecap, boxed gables and generally takes 3 times longer to install. He did not pay for that originally and we will only agree to put it back the way it was originally installed. Once the customer replies to you and lets us know how he would like the roof to be installed we will give him an estimated time for the repairs. If he chooses the vertical roof a contract would have to be sent to him and signed before the roof will be replaced.Initial Complaint

got 30x36 building from them did not receive any stamped and sealed plans have to have them for permit called them said they could not get them it is nc law they have to provideBusiness response

That is incorrect. If you purchase a certified/ engineered building we do provide them. That is not what you purchased and you know that and even stated that when you called. You said I wasn't getting a permit then decided I was going to. The building you purchased is not an engineer certified building and you were aware of that upon purchasing the building. There are no blueprints here that will match the building you purchased. You were also told that. ** were told to hire a structural engineer and have him draw drawings for you for the building you have. Engineered buildings cost more, engineered blueprints have to be bought and paid for and you did not purchase either. Your contract was fulfilled and product you purchased was deliverd and installed on your property. Do not make false claims that we owe you something that we do not.Initial Complaint

I went to Capital Buildings 3 weeks ago, to talk to them about the process of ordering a building, cost and what I needed to do. I expected them to give me all the information need such as what kind of building it is, certified or non, do I need a permit or not? I informed him I lived in Lexington and in a residential community. The guy told me I do not need a permit and assured me that the total cost was around $8300, with concrete, leveling and building. He never mentioned to me that the cost if needed a permit was an additional 3k. I just found out last week that we would need a permit for the garage. Ive been sending messages to the company all morning about them not explain the price difference at the time of signing and felt like I was being sold the cheapest building I could buy at Lowes for cheaper. I asked for at least half the deposit of ****** back and they straight up said no.All Im saying is that if they would have better informed me of the priced difference and stated the building was not certified, I would have never put the deposit down. If anyone wants to purchase from this place make sure you ask if the building is certified or not, the price will not be the same as the advertised price you see on FB or anywhere else. Just add on an additional 3k to 4k. I am not looking for an apology. Capital Building needs to train their employees to tell the truth and explain in detail about the True cost of building a garage/shed/building. One last thing, they said, they do not go over prices on things you do not need. Turns out I needed it, and they just want to keep the deposit, saying I signed the contract and agreed and asked me to sign another one today about to get a certified building. I'm done talking with that company.Business response

This is not the truth. The salesman asked her if she was going to pull a permit and she said no she did not need one where she lived. She stated she lived in the county in a residential neighborhood but she did not need a permit there so that was the end of the permit discussion. If you are asked and you state you do not then we have covered that, not only that but the very first line of our contract clearly states that she needs to call her HOA and inspections office to see if she needs one. She read both of these contracts before signing the contract or putting down a deposit. She was not lied to or mislead and then upon finding out she did need one several weeks later is trying to turn the tables on our salesman. It was discussed and she was not charged for something she did not need according to her. It is the homeowners responsibility to check with the county to see what they need and not ours, it is our job to provide what they asked and bought. She ordered her building and we ordered her materials and even offered to upgrade the package to include engineer stamped blueprints, the extra materials and to add the footers to pass inspection and she only wants to play the blame game instead of accepting responsibility for not doing her job in this transaction. I have attached supporting documents that she signed proving that she was aware when she signed the contract and that deposits were non refundable since she had us order these materials in good faith that she would purchase them. It also states that she is responsible for the cost of these materials.Initial Complaint

In July 2023, I paid my deposit (which was over $700) and the gentleman stated he would send me the contract and once they received the contract back it would be 3 to 4 weeks turn around time. I received the contract and emailed it back for a quick return. He received it and said that the "Scheduling" department would contact me for a build date in about 2 weeks. Mid-September came around and I haven't heard anything from anyone. I attempted to contact the company and their "third party" scheduling department with no response. I finally was able to get a hold of the company at the end of September. He stated that he would contact the scheduling department and find out the issue. I advised him due to Military requirements and a surgery first of October, I had very limited time and it needed to be done by the end of the week or it would be January before I could do anything. I did not hear anything until late Friday afternoon when they called stating that they will be there on Saturday morning. I advised them that I would not be there due to work and they have to give me more of a notice than a 12 hour notice so I could have someone there. They stated that the shop manager that is employed with Capitol Buildings will be there to put my building/carport up on his day off. They said that he will do it since I was in a time crunch. I asked if their shop manager was going to do the build, will they guarantee his work. They told me no. I advised them that their contract stated that they were a distributor only and do not cover the work but if their employee is coming to do the work I want a guarantee that will cover any issues with his work. They advised that they would not cover what he does. I told them to forget about it and just refund my deposit. They advised me that I signed a contract and I will not receive any money. I asked for the Owner to contact me. I have not heard from anyone or Owner since. I want my money back. They breached their own contract.Business response

The contract that the customer states clearly says no refunds on deposits. We have ordered his metal and paid for it and are stuck with it until he agrees to take it. The sheet metal for this job was over $2100.00 so if anyone should be contacting anyone it should be us contacting an attorney to exercise our rights in this contract that also says that by signing this contract you agree to pay for those materials as indicated in the attached contracts in more than 1 place. If you refused delivery of your building for any reason we have the right to demand full payment of the building before installation. You refused the delivery even after they agreed to send our shop manager to build it on short notice. Last notes we had were that if it could not be done by October 6th we would have to wait until after January. Today is January 31st and we are going to have our scheduling office contact this customer to try and get this scheduled for the first week in February like he asked.Initial Complaint

We ordered a building from Capitol Buildings in March 2021 and never got it. Everytime I called they said it will be another few weeks. Never happened. Finally in April of 2022 I called and they offered me my $600 refund of my down payment. I said I would rather have the building and they said it would be another year or so before they could deliver, so I agreed to the refund. I have waited patiently for weeks and finally called them today and they said said it would be 6 plus weeks before they could process my refund. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. They have lied to me so many times. They are not trustworthy and do not believe anything they tell you. I want a refund NOW!!Business response

On 5-5-21, contract was signed for a40x40x12 building with Capitol Buildings; agent Joe W*****. On 5-3-21 I paid $8,456.00 which was 25% of the total price $25,887.00. Concrete was poor June 12,2021 and paid for by me . Called Capitol Buildings and was told that it would be 6 to 8 weeks while the cement dried. Called 8-31-21, and was told the building material was on a ship in the ocean. Called continuously every month of 2021 and was told I was next in line. Today, 3/28/22, told I was still in line. Something has got to be done. I signed a contract for services and they have breached this contract. In addition to prices paid above the Footer and grading and cement was separately paid to a contractor $7,938.00 that was chosen by Capitol Buildings, which was done on time and completed with no problems.Business response

Talked to the scheduling department today and was informed the same thing the customer was that this customer is still in rotation to be built and that they would call him with an install date once that contractor is available.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
This is the same response I've heard for the past 6 months. I need an install date. I need some evidence that I am on a list, and a verbal response with a contractor.Initial Complaint

ordered building from Capital Buildings in November of 2020 for a 40Wx50Lx14T with concrete slab and excavation. Deposit of $6,***.** was placed at time of order and was told it would take 1-2 months for concrete to be poured then another 8 weeks to receive materials and install. The first time the concrete crew came out, they would not pour due to snow on ground and cold temperature, That cost me $300 but I could understand there reasons to not pour that day. After several set backs the excavation and concrete was poured on 03/09/2021 and turned out nice. Here comes the kicker, it is now 03/10/2022 and still no building, no materials delivered, and the only contact I get is when my wife or I call them. Every time it is "next month" ! Now from contract deposit till time of this complaint is 17 months!!! I do understand material prices and availability has made things challenging alone with a low labor force, but... almost a year and a half is beyond reasoning even with all the excuses that you give others who have similar complaints. My wife an I have be very friendly and kind every time we call but my goodness! We are really trying not to get an attorney wrapped up in this and hate to even resort to file a complaint but this has cost us not having the building up by now.Business response

Talked to customer service today and they are going to have the materials delivered by mid April and then schedule installation at a later date unless the customer wants to have it installed by someone else.
There will not be any restitution, thats silly.

I ordered a metal garage from Capital Buildings and i was told when my concrete was finished i would have a building in 8 to 12 weeks. My concrete was done on 8/2/2021 and I still don't have a building. I was told at the end of 9/21 I would have a building the end of Oct. 21 or first week of Nov. 21, no building. I called back the middle of 11/21 and was told they didn't have my color. I called back middle of12/21 and was told i would have a building in January 2022 still no building as of 2/21/2022.Business response

As per the contract there are no refunds on deposits, the scheduling department is behind due to the lack of installers and is currently trying to correct these issues. Please be patient.
Attached is a copy of the form you initialed saying you understood there were no refunds on deposits. After speaking to scheduling they are telling me it will be 3 to 4 weeks and it will be installed.

I have been told this for the last 5 months that I would have a building, if not delivering on your promise that should be enough to break contract.

Capitol builders installed a 30 x 48 metal building for me on July 14,2021. I had my concrete slab poured in December of 2020. I was told that it would be three weeks to a month after the concrete was poured before the building would be installed. After countless calls from me, excuses and lies from them it was finally installed during July 2021 at a total cost of around $14,500. After the contractors finished and left I realized they had stepped on a section of the roof during construction creasing it and causing it to cave in with about a 2 inch gap at the seam. I contacted the contractors and they promised to be out to repair the next week. After repeated calls to the contractor and capitol builders it is still not repaired. I have asked to speak to the shop manager and i was told his number is not given out. I have asked to speak to other managers to no avail. I have been told it would be taken care of by the office. Seven months later and nothing. This is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. I even suggested that they not give the contractor any more work until the repair was made and I was told by the office that they would do that if they had to. I did not hire the contractor and therefore I cant make him repair anything. Capitol builders hired him. It plainly states on their website they offer a one year warranty and excellent customer service. I have had neither!Business response

Your contract clearly states that we sell the building package and do not install the building and that any repairs should be addressed with the contractor/installer. We try to help with the process at times but it is not our responsibility to fix this issue. The contract also states that you can use your own contractor or use the ones we recommend so yes you did choose to use him and you paid him directly to install your building and not our company so you need to take that up with the contractor/installer that put your building up. Attached is the copy that you initialed stating you understood this policy so as you can see you have accused the wrong party.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because each time I have contacted Capitol buildings the lady in the office has told me it would be taken care of. Furthermore she told me the shop manager was on site. Sure sounds like an employee to me. And since the contractors are referred by Capitol builders why aren't they stopping the referrals if they are not doing satisfactory work. I asked them not to give the contractors any more referrals until they completed my repair. But seeing how the contractors are on site at Capitol buildings when I call tells me they are still using them. It is a simple repair and if Capitol was interested in helping the least little bit they would not refer them for any more work until this repair was made. That is how you do business. It is not costing Capitol anything to get the contractors to make the repair.Customer response

They were paid in cash. I know his name was ******. I can try to get his phone number. I never met him. I think the number I have is for a guy who was in charge of the crew they sent out. They sell you a package deal with a labor price until there is a warranty issue. Then it's no longer a package deal. I was under the assumption that Capitol buildings at least scheduled any warranty issues with whatever contractor they send. That is why I am not sure about the number I have for the contractor. I didn't know I needed it at the time. I have contacted the number that I do have for him or one of his workers multiple times and they promised to handle it. The number I have is the number they called me from when getting directions to my location. They apologized but never came back or contacted me about scheduling to come back. Capitol buildings had given me ******s number but I doubt they will again. But ****** was the one over the crew that was sent to install.

Technically it is the customers responsibility to get the contact information from the installer while he is on site and you (the BBB) threatening any kind of recourse against our company when it clearly states we are not responsible for that in the contact the customer signed is ridiculous. You were provided a copy of that contract also stating they were independent contractors and we should not have to keep record of their installer when its not our responsibility. I am seeing more and more how the BBB throws their weight around on these cases and tries to push blame on companies even when there is contractual evidence proving it is not our responsibility. Another reason why we do not use your services.
His name is ****** Reyes and his contact number is ************
