- Additional Info:Information received by the BBB indicates that consumers are receiving letters offering an opportunity to work as a consumer service evaluator through a paid mystery shopper program. The "assignment" includes evaluation of local department and discount stores, and Western Union or Money Gram. Consumers are instructed to call to activate the "payroll" check for $1,980.00 prior to depositing the check. Checks sent to consumers are counterfeit and victims will lose money in this scam designed to fool consumers into thinking they have actually been hired to work as secret shoppers. Perpetrators in this scam are using the actual name and address of a legitimate business located in Omaha on checks they distribute. The legitimate business is not affiliated with this scam and never mails checks to consumers. The area code of the phone number on the letter, is in Alberta Canada. If you have received an offer to become a secret shopper or a check using the name of this company, please report it to the BBB's trade practice investigator at 402-436-2345, Ext. 8601.
