2 years ago my daughter broke her arm and required an ambulance ride to another hospital. Ambulance rides are covered 100% by my insurance so it wasn't a surprise when I didn't get a bill (as I never did in the past by a different ambulance service). 2 years later..... I get a bill saying insurance won't cover my claim. 1) they billed the wrong insurance, say they sent me letters which were never received, 2) they never called me saying they were having trouble collecting from the insurance. They asked me to call insurance, which I did and they had nothing on file of any claim. Then they got denied and I got a letter. I called and they said claim was filed to late, ( 2 years later) so was denied for untimely filing. They are sending me to collection, but why should I have to pay for their mistake? I pay my insurance to avoid bills like this. They say they got the info from the hospital (who got all of their money no problems) so not sure where the information went wrong. We were not asked for insurance info from the ambulance service at the time or we would have provided it.

Golden Cross provided a service to this child and the parents lacked follow through in ensuring that we were paid.  They also signed an “accept treatment and transport” disclaimer that stated they understood they would be responsible to see to it we were paid.  We often transport regardless of the patient’s ability to pay.  Golden Cross appealed their plan twice and both times their plan denied our request.  The attached appeal clearly shows that the parents received timely notices that they ignored.  Not until I sent them a letter informing them that the account was going to collections; did they bother to respond.  In fact, I left the husband a voice message following their plans second appeal denial and the wife decided to write to the BBB.
They have two choices at this point; work with their plan so that Golden Cross Ambulance is compensated for the trip or set up a payment plan with us.  If they choose to do nothing, I could take them to small claims court or send the account to collections.
