Got pressured into buying a Straight Away hair straightener for $110 at the Beauty Express inside **********. The one they have on demo in the store and kiosks is now very clearly not what theyre actually selling you. It performs completely different and is of higher quality. The one they claim is the same as the demo is as cheap as can be and you could probably buy one thats better quality at a dollar store. It will rip your hair out and fry it. You dont realize this until after you bring the product home and open the packaging. This is an awful tactic and basically a bait and switch scam. They also try to sell you on the fact that it comes with a lifetime warranty, but then dont mention its an extra charge until theyve already ran your card. They wont offer a refund, either.Initial Complaint

I was stopped by a Beauty Express sales rep at the Burlington Mall on 1/16/23. I was advertised a hair straightener and curler that was safer and healthier for your hair because "it does not use heat". I was told this product used steam unlike traditional hair straighteners. The sales rep used a product on my hair that seemed to be everything he was advertising. He sold me what was supposed to be the exact same product. I opened the product as soon as I got home and was extremely upset to see a regular hair straightener that solely uses heat. I tried to use the product and it clearly also couldn't produce the same results as what was used in store. Not only was I misled about how the product worked, but I believe the product they sent me home with wasn't even the same one from the demo. I am looking to return the product despite a no return policy, as it was blatant false advertising. I contacted the manufacturer (Straight Ahead Beauty) with my complaint and go the following response: "We are just the manufacturer and handle warranty exchanges and website purchases. All our locations are independently owned and operated. You will need to go back to the place of purchase your transaction and information is in their system." I tried to call the number on the receipt with no luck. The place of purchase is not convenient for me to return to easily. It doesn't look like I am the only person to have been sold a product that is not what it seemed- *************************************************************Initial Complaint

I was coerced to buy a Straight Ahead hair straightener from the mall kiosk on 11/25/22. The salesman approached me as I walked by. I told him I'm not interested and he proceeded to grab my arm and pull me over to the counter. He straightened a section of my hair and then showed me how it curls burning my ear twice without apology. My face was heated due to social anxiety and hate being center of attention. I repeatedly told him I can't afford it. After the back and forth for 10 minutes I wanted out of the situation. I asked for a business card. He said ok and walked away coming back without one but told me about a special offer of a hairdresser discount of $50.00 off of $200.00 which brought it down to $150.00 that he was specially doing for me. I gave in and bought it. After the purchase he tried to sell me heat treatment products for an additional $100.00 with a free straightener which I asked why I couldn't buy that in the first place and get the free straightener it would of saved me $50.00. He said no it doesn't work that way. I said no I can't afford and without insisting he said ok and I left. I felt instant regret and went back to get a refund in which he said that he told me no refunds. He did not!! I looked at the receipt and there it was at the bottom "no refunds". All reputable businesses are confident and stand by their products doing what they advertise and give full refunds after trying their products. Red flag raised. Ten minutes later walking out the mall passing by the kiosk everything was gone. He fled fast. I feel like a sucker! I tried it out when I got home and noticed the poor quality of the metal plates. I heated it up to the max and waited. Once hot I passed over a section and no difference. I tried curling it exactly like he showed and it the outside burned my hand, it didn't his. The plates didn't get hot enough. What a scam! I want a refund or a straightener that works as demonstrated since that's what I paid all that money for.Initial Complaint

My daughter was pressured into buying a curling wand at Beauty Express. She understood the price to be much less than the 220.00 that she actually paid. She is under 18 and didn't know that she was being fast talked by a salesperson that only wanted to make a sale. Once her credit card was processed , then she then was told, no returns because of COVID. I am seeking a full refund of the item of 220.00. I don't know why the Malls allow such and aggressive company to lease from them.Initial Complaint

On February 21, 2022 I was given a hair demonstration by someone at the mall. They claimed to be selling a product that was not the one that I received from them. They did a bait and switch method. They used an amazing product on me at the mall, then when I took it home it almost ruined my hair. I spent $205 and I would like to get my money back. When I went back they said they don't do refunds. Probably because they know their product is a fake! They should not be able to sell a fake product in the mall! I bought this in Salem nh but the receipt says Nashua nh.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2022/03/24) */ To whom this may concern, the tool we use at the mall is the exact same tool that we sell. The only difference between the results is the person using the straightener. We use it professionally with a comb and on 450 degrees. I would love to show her that the straightener works perfectly if she would come over to the kiosk for one of my employees to demonstrate the correct way of us on her hair with her personal iron. The reason why we do not accept refunds is because we give a lifetime warranty. For whatever problem the tool is exchangeable for a brand new one because of the company's great quality guarantee. all the locations of the business mention on the receipt. if the costumer has any more concerned the customer more than welcome to arrive back to the cart and get help with her tool. thank you!Initial Complaint

On 2/10/22 I was stopped in the mall by a kiosk (receipt labeled Beauty Express) that wanted to show me their product. The sales person demonstrated the product on my hair, which I was told was a steamer hair straightener. The entire sales pitch was focused around how steam is better for hair than a regular straightener because it doesn't use heat, which damages hair. I was also told that the product had a lifetime warranty and could be exchanged if there were any issues. I brought the product home, opened the box, and quickly realized it is not a hair steamer, but a regular straightener. It is not the same product that they demoed on my hair. There is nowhere to put water in the product or instructions about the steam. I looked up the product on their manufacturer website, and it doesn't appear that they make any steam straighteners at all. ******************************** On further investigation, I looked up the business and there are multiple complaints across the country of this business in varying names which describe the same issue. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************ I reached out to the business the next day via phone. The phone number is out of state and is someone's cell phone vs a business. Person did not answer with the business name, just "hello." My receipts also have 2 different locations, one in ***** ** and one in ******, ** - neither of which is where I purchased this product. I bought it in the kiosk in the Mall of *** *********. We did not reach a resolution on the phone. I showed up at the mall on 2/12/22 to speak with them about this and try to resolve the situation. The Kiosk was completely closed during the middle of the day on a Saturday. I could not even exchange the product or have them honor the warranty because the business is not open. Complaint attached.
