For six months I have been complaining to the Asbury Park Press that my newspaper is never delivered before 10:30-11:00 each morning. I have been told repeatedly that the carrier has been talked to about delivering the paper first thing in the morning, as it should be. Nothing changes. Most often, my emails do not even generate a reply. Now I'm told my rates are going up! They don't care about the horrible customer service they provide.

I am writing to report the billing practices of the Asbury Park Press. They bill people all different prices for the same paper. ** one neighbor pays $15 a month, another neighbor pays $20 and month and another was paying $90 a month until we told him what we were paying. I was currently paying $35 month and then out of the blue I was charged $81.66. A new fee of $9.95 was added for change of delivery, and $5.00 to send me a paper bill ** neighbors were not charged these fees. In 2023, we did not receive a paper several days and they only credited my account for 26 cents per paper when the paper cost $1.12 per day. I don't know how a business can arbitrarily come up with different rates for different people for the same product.

We were subscribed to the 7 day delivery for the Asbury Park Press at a rate of $11.00 (promo) per month. Failing to have noted the renewal date we received an e-mail notice that we were charged, (past tense...without prior notice), a new rate of $32.00 as of 10/2/2024. We called APP customer service the same day that the e-mail notice was received and after explaining that we never received any prior notice of the new rate we were told that an automatic renewal charge at the current prevailing rate was the standard company policy. No advance notice required or provided...and nothing could or would be changed. We then asked to ****** the subscription and requested a refund for the unused period. To our surprise NO REFUNDS WERE ALLOWED meaning we have now to eat the $21.00 difference even though we no longer wanted the paper delivered. We believe this practice to be truly deceptive. Any business should be allowed to increase their rates to cover costs and make a profit BUT it is also good and fair business practice to pre-warn customers that a higher new rate is pending and allow them to cancel.... PRIOR to renewal.... especially with a no refund policy ONCE CHARGED.I sympathize with the newspaper's dwindling print subscription condition but bilking unwary customers out of money is not the way to maintain or encourage loyal subscribers to continue supporting the print news.We are seniors and may be dinosaurs in still wanting to read a print newspaper but you, Asbury Park Press, are expediting your own extinction. Farewell and Good Luck (because you will need it)!

You know what? Ive been thinking that Im a jackass paying for this paper to be delivered..Ive been paying I believe $1000/year.. in return I get news 2 days after the fact..some of the stuff I want to read, need a magnifying glass..believe me, I want to support the local paper, and also support print media..but keeps getting harder to rationalize the expense..reading the other reviews doesnt help..if you dont take steps to rectify these issues, The Press will cease to exist, and I for one will be saddened by that.

The Asbury Park Press says that they will provide delivery services that are appropriate and helpful for the customer. I have requested that the paper be placed in a mail slot in the front door of the residence. This is because the resident is elderly with limited mobility. Despite daily calls, the request has been promised, but not delivered. In speaking to the customer service representatives, some of them were **** and rude. The excuse given for not providing the request is that there is not real managerial supervision of the delivery personnel. A newspaper that often writes about organizations and businesses that do not provide transparent and effective customer service is a guilty as the features they write. The newspaper is uncaring about senior customers and ineffective in managing their delivery personnel.

I received a letter from the Asbury Park Press on 3/15/24. informing me that my new monthly rate for press would be $64.99 starting on 4/1/24. When I checked my credit card the charge was $76.99, outrageous. They are a joke, they are in the business of Communications but they can't or will not communicate with customers. Like many of the other customers I have been reading the ** press for over 40 years, I checked their organization chart to see if there was someone I could talk to. There are pictures of the editor and a large staff, but not 1 phone number or email address. A lot of aggravation, just cancelled.

APP uses bait and switch tactics. I called to cancel my digital subscription. Was told I could get another year for $4.99 a month which I agreed to. Got a bill for $15. A month. Called to cancel and get a refund. Was lied to when I was told by 2 different customer service reps that a refund would be filed. I also asked to speak to a district manager who never called me back. Called again- no refund had ever been filed since they do NOT give refunds. No way to directly contact a district manager or the billing department. They break the law and nothing is done to rectify the issue!

I am totally disgusted with the delivery of the Asbury Park Press. I have complained multiple times through email. At least 2 times a week I have not received the paper since April. I have called and sent emails to deaf ears. And I am not the only one to complained of the poor service. I truly believe it is the intention of the press to dissolve the paper. I have cancelled my subscription and I have been a loyal reader of the paper over forty years.

My complaint has nothing to do with delivery. It has to do with not being able to reach anyone at this business who has any authority to speak to their business or billing practices. I was charged $75 for deleting 4 characters from an obituary that cost me over $1400. I could not be given a phone number to a manager to discuss this with - I had to wait for some unnamed person to call me back... As you can guess, I'm still waiting. There is no customer service - Gannett farms out obit services to a third party and customers are stuck like a ping pong ball between sales reps who can't speak to customer service. Where is the humanity in our business practices anymore? ******* is where the news goes to die. God help us.
