GAF shingles were put on ************************************ 4 areas of the home and ceilings need to be fixed. I filed a claim and I had to do all the work finding someone to spend time removing shingles, counting and looking for loose shingles, trying to find the leaking areas and taking pictures. I had to spend money to send all this required material to them via **** Then they wanted an estimate to repair these areas by hand sealing the remaining shingles. Both the roofer and myself agreed that hand sealing was not the proper way of fixing this problem. There would just be continuous problems with shingles breaking. The estimate sent to them was for the proper way of fixing these areas by removing all defective shingles and replacing them with new. This estimate was for $9,600 and GAF would not accept it and would only give $2400 for hand sealing. The claim was opened in July, it is now October. A contractor opened up one of the areas in the kitchen to try and determine where one of the leaks was coming from. During the night I had a bat come into the kitchen from the attic. My cat was able to catch it and kill it but we were put on a 10 day rabies watch by animal control and the health department. I had to have both cats vaccinated again and examined by a vet. I had already spent money on vaccines when they had their annual checkups. Luckily the bat was negative for rabies. They don't promptly return calls nor do they immediately respond to emails. Week after week goes by with no response. And in the meantime every time it rained I had to sit here thinking about the water leaking into the home. I have had two different roofing companies tell me that they no longer use GAF because of the lack of response to warranty and claim issues. I was told 2 days ago that I would have another offer via email come thru by the end of the day and 2 days later I'm still waiting and it's the end of another week. GAF and their employees are not worth the one star!GAF Response

This is in response to BBB Customer Review ******. Ms. ****** ***** (the "Claimant") filed a claim with our office on July 30, 2024. We received the Claimant's package with the shingle samples on August 7, 2024. Per the terms of the applicable System Plus Warranty (the "Warranty"), "If your shingles... do fail to seal, blow off, or sustain damage from winds, GAF's contribution to you will be for the reasonable costs of replacing the blown off shingles...and hand-sealing any unsealed shingles... GAF's maximum liability under this paragraph is to reimburse you for the cost of hand-sealing all of the shingles... on your roof".GAF requires claimants to pursue claims at their expense. However, as a measure of goodwill, we will compensate the Claimant an additional $100 on top of the reimbursement for hand sealing all of the shingles on her roof. Her settlement will total $2,500.00 per the terms of the Warranty. We are sorry the Claimant is not satisfied with the remedy, however, since we have fulfilled our obligation per the terms of the Warranty, the settlement offer remains as is, and our position is unchanged. We thank you for the opportunity to respond to this customer review.Review from melvin P

Reported to DaBella and GAF per shingle issue. The warranty is useless unless I spend 2 to 3 thousands dollars for roofing contractor to remove 2 full 12 inch X 36 inch shingles, many photos and send all of it to them for evaluation at my personel expense. This is just GAF's way of telling me to bend over. I am on a 100% VA disablitiy. I would have to miss 4 to 6 payments for the credit union that financed this contract for me. Might as well file bankruptsy and start all over again with a reputable company. The new roof was put on roughly only 3 years ago.Review from Richard and Susan K

We had a GAF roof installed in October 2023. We immediately noticed rippling, curling, multi-colored shingles and tar/residue on our roof. We contacted our roofing company with our concerns. Two men came out and walked the perimeter agreeing the roof had some issues. Upon request from them we contacted GAF representative on November 21 sent photos and texts but got no response. In January 2024 we asked our GAF representative to come out and look at our roof but no one ever came. Shingle samples were sent in March when a new GAF representative was assigned to us. The only way we knew we had a new representative was because of our contact with them. Shingles were requested again in April 2024 when a third GAF representative was assigned to us. In August we received a denial of warranty claim saying our shingles met all the lab requirements. There was very little communication precipitated by GAF It is a shame that companies do not stand by their products. Although the lab may "prove" product meets expectations, the company should send someone to look at the installed product. Our neighbors have mentioned that this roof looks worse than the one it replaced. We are disappointed in the roof whether it is the fault of product or the fault of installation. We have had both roofing company and GAF involved in trying to resolve our dissatisfaction since the completion of our roof. Neither party wants to admit error. I wish I would have read GAF reviews prior to the roof replacement. Seems like most have dissatisfied comments.GAF Response

This is in response to BBB Customer Review ******. The claim was evaluated, and the shingles on the customer's roof were shipped with "Do Not Mix" instructions, which means the two different lot codes cannot be mixed on the same roof. This is not a GAF error. We suggest that the Kings seek recourse with the installing contractor and the distributor who provided the material.Review from Sue H

In fall 2016 I had GAF HD lifetime dimensional shingles put on my roof by a very reputable contractor in my area. The shingles a barely 8 years old now and already worn out. I have green algae on the shingles and lots of granulates in my gutters. None of my neighbors has green algae on the roof! And although we had one hail storm with small hail, I am the only one with gutters full of granulates and most of my neighbors have older roofs than me!If I had known, how bad these shingles are, I had never used them.GAF Response

Twice burned and completely shy! I have been taken twice by gaf contractors. First guy went to jail for fraud, second guy is ghosting me along with gaf while Ive had 7 months of leaks since install. Gaf does no checking of partners capabilities so its like the Wild West, gaf washes their hands saying its the installation partner, which is most times ***** in truck with no ****** reviews or anything. Stay away from anyone flashing gaf certified!Review from Eddie B

Terrible company to deal with! This is the second time I have had to file a claim with this company. There roofing materials are crap! My second claim is still going on and it's been almost a year! I can't tell you how many storms we have had here in SC not to mention the Nor'easter we just recently had. I honestly don't know how much more my roof can take! Did I mention the customer service with this company is awful! They offered $200 to have my shingles replaced which is total bs! Don't ever use this company. I would give them "0" stars if I was able to!Review from George C

I have a problem with the shingles on a Roof that were manufactured by GAF. It is a Timberland, Lifetime Roof. The clam number is ********, it was installed by a company in ******* ****** called Diversified Roofing. I called this company and they came out and agreed the shingles were defective and said that I would have to file a claim directly with GAF. I did this and have been getting nothing but the run around from *****************. First I need to prove that I own the house with the roof so I sent in property tax receipts. Then photos of the roof, I send in over 20 taken by two roofing companies. Then they asked for either a building permit or a certificate of occupancy (no one including my builder, the *** or the tax office has ever hear of this). I finally got the the builder the send me a building permit as they asked for and forwarded it to ***. Now they want a ****************************** for the approval of the construction of your house. This company just doesnt want to stand behind there product and just keeps asking for a laundry list of document. Hopefully you can be of help before this is turned over to attorneys and could possibility become a class action lawsuit.
