the worst insurance company to work with. I work for a Medical provider and the lack of communication from this company is unacceptable. It takes SEVERAL months to get any response from them. I have money that is due to us dating back several months, they can't process claims correctly. They say they prioritize their emails but you don't hear back from them in months, they don't accept calls. What kind of business is this? I bet they take and prioritize calls to get their name on the stadium.....seriously....where do they get the money for that? Members premiums? Keep raising those premiums to put your name on more things..... Sickening.........

Horrible company. Last 6 months have gotten really bad maybe because they are getting rid of so many employees so they can keep their record profits up.You have to fight legitimate claims that they have denied by the time they finally pay them you are in collections they do not care.

This is the second time that I have had to fight a bill that I am receiving for an in network claim. It is so annoying that I have to take time to make phone calls over something so simple. Every time I speak to a rep they are polite and see the error and “promise” to follow up and take care of it. There has been neither. I am aware the company has been fined in the past for this exact this with thousands of other customers. I’m about ready to say, bye now!

I manage prior authorizations for patients. I cannot get anyone in utilization management to fax me a determination letter without calling and faxing multiple times. I’ve currently been going back and forth with them for two weeks. They are significantly delaying care of very sick children because they cannot be bothered to fax me a letter. I sit on hold for a minimum of 30 minutes every time I call. I was given the incorrect contact information for the provider services rep and even with the updated contact information I don’t get a response from him. Kids are going to be hospitalized over plain laziness and they don’t care.

I called Highmark, using the number provided on the back of my number ID. I was on hold for a total of 45 minutes before anyone answered. The service representative who answered the call, told me I had called the wrong number. I informed her (and double checked) that I had called the number on the back of my membership ID. She apologized and said it must’ve been routed wrong and gave me another number. I was transferred to a computer which kept me in a loop until I got a message that stated, “we are closed during lunch, goodbye“. I spent one hour and 11 minutes on the phone attempting to obtain medical assistance and all I got was wasted time.

Terrible company. They never sent me my new id and I had no idea their claim Process has been delegated to ****** *********. I submitted a claim for an out of network provider who I paid in full since it’s out of network. That was back in July. I emailed them every month and no one told me I had to submit the claim to *********. 3 months later someone finally tells me it has to be submitted to ****** *********. It doesn’t end there. I called ********* and was advised to have my dentist submit the claim which was initially rejected saying I was not covered for July even when my employer sent me a proof I am. Finally after 5 months they did process my claim and this time They sent the reimbursement check to my dentist who is out of network and someone I also paid in full. I called ****** ********* and the reps were rude because I was frustrated like it was my fault my claims was processed incorrectly. Truly unprofessional. No apology for such horrible service

My husband and I paid for extra dental coverage with our Highmark WNY BC/BS plan. Our dentist has sent copies of bills to them at least 4 times. Each time we contact customer service we are told they have no record of any. We have spoken to customer service reps at least 5 times over several months. One rep asked if we wanted to file a complaint about 2 months ago. He took all our information and said he would file it. Still nothing. Last week we contacted them again and we’re told they do not have any records in our file. I asked to speak to their supervisor. He didn’t know who to send me to. I was again told to file my own complaint which I did. I was assured someone would get back to me within 24-48 hours. That was one week ago. We asked for them to send the correct form for us to fill out ourselves and send to them for payments. Again nothing has arrived in the mail. I am disgusted with this company. We winter in Florida and use BC/BS because of their network, We had been customers of *********** ****** for many years but felt compelled to change because of in network coverage,

I switched over to Highmark/BCBS of WNY because of the lower co-pays, not thinking that EVERYTHING would be "lower"; customer service, etc.. The application process went fine until I received a notice from Social Security telling me that my monthly Medicare Advantage premiums would be automatically deducted from my income prior to receiving it. Nothing was mentioned at signing up time nor did anyone from BCBS voluntarily contact me! This is appropriate for a business? I THINK NOT! I highly recommend others think twice & do extensive research before signing up with this company. The cons here greatly outweigh the pros.

I’d like someone from Highmark to answer the question of why customer “service” reps (and it’s happened more than once and for a serious injury) can promise a call back re: information needed for treatment and you never hear from them again. This is after being on hold for a considerable amount of time. I’d also like to know what a subscriber should when given conflicting information re: treatment (surgery) of a serious injury. My husband broke his ankle in Florida (we are NY residents) and we were forced to fly home - at risk of blood clots due to extreme swelling - and we were forced to do this because NO ONE at BC/BS would/could give us permission to get out of network treatment! Had my husband died of a blood clot due to flying home in order to have surgery, I wonder if BC/BS would have sent me a sympathy card. And the icing on the cake? My husband and I were each sent a survey from Highmark re: level of satisfaction from our insurance carrier. We each related the above, I included my full name and contact information and asked if someone would contact me. Never heard back and it’s been 4 months! Kathleen Kirst
