Garden ********************** denied emergency care for our established patient. Once i arrived (unscheduled) they examined my cat and then because I was upset, they terminated future care before I could secure a new veterinarian.

    Business response

    01/31/2024

This client contacted our clinic on Friday 1/26/24, in which he inquired if there were appointments available to see his pet. At the time of contact, no appointments were available on Friday, but we informed him we had an open slot with his requested doctor on Monday. The client then asked to speak to doctor and due to her appointment schedule, she was unavailable.  Our soonest availability was the following day due to a last-minute cancellation with a different doctor, which he declined. He insisted to be seen by her as an emergency. We reiterated again that we did not have a spot open, but recommended bringing his pet to a nearby emergency hospital if he thought the pet was in need of urgent care. Around 5:30 pm that same day, the client walked into the clinic with his pet and insisted on being seen. Despite not having an appointment, one of our doctors agreed to examine his pet to ensure it was in stable condition and discuss his concerns. A full exam was completed, and options were discussed with the owner. At the end of the appointment, the client began rudely questioning the doctor and then proceeded to verbally abuse the doctor and veterinary assistant present in the room. At this time, the doctor told the client he cannot speak to them this way and that we were only wanted to help his pet. The client continued to speak over them at which ************ told him he needed to leave and that we would send him his records. ***** then left, after slamming the door and not paying for his exam. We were then contacted by the client's wife via phone, who proceeded to verbally abuse the manager over the phone before hanging up. At this time, our manager called back to let the client know we are terminating the client/clinic relationship and would both email and mail their pet's records.

Garden City Veterinary Care is not an emergency clinic, but we do our best to accommodate the urgent needs of our patients as our schedule allows. We do not tolerate verbal or physical abuse at our clinic and expect our staff and clients to treat each other with kindness and respect so we can focus on offering the best care to our patients.
