On September 25, I was defrosting frozen meat in the sink. I left the tap running at a low flow rate for about 20 minutes. When I returned, I found that the water in the sink had overflowed onto the kitchen floor, leaving a small puddle. I immediately turned off the tap and took cleaning measures, mopping up the puddle. Ten minutes later, the apartment management staff came to my door to tell me that the tenant downstairs had a leak in his room and placed a dehumidifier. Three days later, the dehumidifier was collected and I received an email informing me that this was my responsibility and I would be billed. Two months later, I received a bill stating that they needed to replace the ceiling of the tenant downstairs and that I would be responsible for $2,600. I don't think this is reasonable: first, the water damage was not extensive, and I took immediate action to clean it up after discovering it; second, this should be a problem with the apartment's renovation and waterproofing, and I should not be responsible for the cost of repairing the ceiling.

Per tenant complaint, it was discovered that on Sept. 25th, ******* ****, overflowed their sink in their apartment due to negligence on the part of the tenant.  Said negligence caused water to flood the floor of their apartment, as well as leak to the apartment below them.  Per our lease that was attached by the tenant, any damage due to tenant negligence is the responsibility of the tenant.  The damage was in no way associated with poor construction or design, but strictly damage caused by tenant.  Pictures of damage is attached.  All wet drywall had to be removed in order to ensure the integrity of the ceiling moving forward.  Since the complaint was filed, the tenant has accepted all responsibility for damages and has been placed on a payment plan to reconcile the balance due, even making their first payment of $500 towards the balance due.  Again, this complaint has nothing to do with the quality of construction or living conditions provided, but strictly tenant negligence with control of their sink.

Some consumers may elect to not publish the details of their complaints, some complaints may not meet BBB's standards for publication, or BBB may display a portion of complaints when a high volume is received for a particular business.
