Charged $6,850 for new roof and siding to repair leak. Work was completed 7/28/23, but by somebody WNY contracted the job out to. Roof has repeatedly leaked since then and bussiness owner ignores phone calls and text messages. He has sent people to "fix it" but it leaks everytime it rains. I want my money back so I can get a real company to do the work correctly.Business response

We were hired to repair an existing leak. After seeing the work done by our contractor, I immediately sent someone to redo the entire section. Owner has been rude, verbally abusive, and disrespectful. I have continually tried to work with customer to solve problem. We did the addition roof with a new skylight, and sided a small wall. The leak persisted and I sent someone over once again after being screamed at, but understood the customer being upset. The following day after he demanded we come over to remove siding, it rained all day. I received a text message from the customer asking ''where we were, and said my employee told him '' we would be there weather permitting.'' I told him we would return the following day to finish. I stopped, spoke with the guys, checked out everything and put together a plan to finish. The next morning starting at 6am I started receiving rude text messages from customer calling me a liar, that I didn't stop by the job and continued screaming at me using vulgar language. At that point I told him I would not be screamed at, sworn at, and disrespected and that we were done doing business. I am happy to refund $1000, as Its a small wall that needs siding and the leak could very well be coming from the roof above. The customer did not want to do anything with the upper roof. I have done all I can at this point, but will not continue being verbally assaulted on the phone, text, and the internet,Initial Complaint

On September 14, 2023, we met with Anthony C****** to get an estimate for a complete tear off, new roof along with soffits and gutters. Anthony gave us a fair estimate which was close to the other 2 estimates we had already received. Because of how he explained the work to be done, we agreed to contract with him, and signed contract at that time. On September 15, 2023, we went to the office on Delaware Street, and made our initial payment of $2850.00 in cash. We were told the work would be done around October 15, 2023, which would be before bad weather started. It was not started in that period of time. I made phone calls, leaving messages, and sent emails, requesting a call back to firm up a start date. On Thursday, November 16, 2023, we finally received a call that they would start working on Saturday, November 18, 2023. It is now late afternoon and they were a no call, no show. Due to poor communication, we are concerned that this work get done before snow flies. I would like to know when this work will begin, how long it will take, etc, so that we can make arrangements to be home at that time, or if we need to get our initial payment returned and move onto a different contractor to get the work done. Thank you!Business response

On 08/30/2022 we signed a contract with Anthony C****** of WNY Roofing to complete some siding, painting, trim work and gutter and downspout work. The contract was for $28,800 with 1/3 due at signing, 1/3 due upon start and the final 1/3 due upon completion. The work was to start November of 2022 and be completed in 5-7 days. WNY Roofing was paid $9600 on 8/30/2022 and another $9600 on 06/29/2023. Work began in late June of 2023 and was not completed. It is now mid October 2023 (almost 1 year after work was to start) and the job has not been completed. Anthony C****** has made numerous promises to complete the work and it is still not finished. The house is now being damaged by water entering the building from gutters, downspouts, facia and soffit that was removed by WNY Roofing and Anthony C******. There are also animals entering and nesting in the building through the large holes left in the building by WNY Roofing and Anthony C******. Many attempts have been by the homeowner to get WNY Roofing and Anthony C****** to complete the job. We keep getting promises from Anthony C****** that he will complete the work and Anthony has not kept those promises. Anthony C****** even asked to have a third amount paid to him (this is not part of the contract - balance isn't due until work is completed). That request was denied by the homeowners.Business response

WNY Roofing did a full tear off of our roof on Sep. 6 2023. They only installed a few pieces of plywood on the house & did not tarp it off for the night. There was a huge storm that night & it rained into my 3 story home damaging 5 rooms & my entire attic. We are currently living in an apartment while my house is getting fixed. Anthony C******, the owner didn’t come out to assess the damage until Sept.11 despite many calls & texts from us. That was the last day anyone from WNY Roofing has been to our house & the job isn’t finished. They finished the main roof but there are 2 leaks. They came & “fixed” one but it still leaks. They tore off the roof on the back addition of our house, did half of it & left it undone. My husband put a tarp over it so another part of our house didn’t get water damage. That was Sept 11. We’ve texted & called Anthony almost daily asking when he was coming to finish the job. It’s now October 10 & there has been zero attempt to come to our house to finish. They were also supposed to do our soffits, facia, gutters, & porch roof & did not. They attempted to do the facia but it’s the worst job. There are huge gaps, holes, places they didn’t even do & left it open, no right angles or square corners. We don’t have gutters. His workers were drinking on the job. We found multiple cans of beer on our property. We told him this on the first day but it didn’t change. They damaged my neighbor’s house & left roofing debris in her gutters which clogged her downspout that goes underground. Winter is coming & if our house is left in this condition we will have even more water damage. Anthony let 1 month pass without coming to our house to finish & redo what was done improperly. The amount of negligence by this company is unbelievable. Because of it my house is ruined, my family is displaced, & the job is unfinished 1 month later. Anthony has done nothing to fix or remedy this. This company can’t be trusted to do the right thing or properly finish the job.Business response

BBB spoke to Anthony at the business and the following was relayed:
The issue is currently being resolved through our insurance company. The customer has a balance of $9,785 and also charged back $9,500. We need the $9,500 returned as that is work that was already done and we are willing to waive the $9,785 balance and insurance will address the rest.

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. My insurance is paying for the damage inside our house not the outside. The roofing job per our contract was not finished and a large portion of the job was abandoned. I have had to hire 2 separate companies to finish the work that was of the essence so more damage isn’t done to our house with winter coming. I’ve paid ***** $4,340 to redo and finish the back addition roof. I’ve had 5 companies come out to assess the facia/soffit/ carpentry work that was butchered and left unfinished by WNY roofing. Only 1 company was able to fit it in before winter. That quote was $8,500. Every company also said the main roof on our house is poorly done and will need to be redone. This is evidenced by the 2 leaks we have. I also still need to find someone to do the gutters, our roof on the porch and the 2 bay windows. All of this was in our roofing contract with WNY Roofing and part of the price. I will be paying out of pocket (not through insurance) more money than what our balance would have been if they had finished the job. I also have to pay even more money to redo all their work by Anthony’s unskilled workers. The exterior of my house is in worse condition after WNY Roofing came to do the roof. It is the opposite of what a roofing contractor is supposed to do. This matter is not resolved.

BBB spoke to the customer and the following was relayed:A lot of work was left undone for over 30 days and a lot of damage was incurred. Our insurance company is covering all the inside damage and is suing his insurance company because he either would not or did not contact his insurance company. Insurance won't cover the rest/outside because it is considered abandoned. I have prices for what was done and what needs to be done. The dispute/charge back was reversed in favor of the business because of contract.

Dana Gillespie

We have contracted to have roofing work done at two locations. Partial payment has been made for both jobs. The work at *** ****** is incomplete. Work has not been started at ** **** *****. The checks for these jobs were cashed on July 29, very little work has been done, and phone calls are not being returned. We need to know if and when the work will be done so that, if they are not able to handle the work we can get monies refunded and find someone else to do the work.Business response

We had WNY Roofing out for a roof replacement and new siding estimate. Anthony seemed to care the most of the 4 companies we had out to look at our home and provide estimates. His pricing was same as ********* for the roof and somewhat higher for the siding & gutters. He was very engaged and presented himself as caring about workmanship and how the home would look afterwards. We changed up both siding , gutter & shingle colors. The warranty was a deciding factor. End result. Roof replacement was superb. The siding was a struggle for them, many redos during install due to improper installation. Siding bowed, blamed on house. Gaps in siding, not corrected. Broken siding at nailing flange, improperly installed. Gutters, all corners leaked, pitch incorrect. **** ****** came out and installed guards and sealed all corners and fastened gutters correctly. Thank you **** ******* Anthony and most of his crew are hard working and care about their workmanship. I highly recommend for roofing. I can send pictures and videos of why we can’t recommend them for siding and gutters. We are still waiting for our shutters. They had come back and fixed a few items. Left a hole in newly installed chimney siding.Business response

On April 23, 2021 I signed a contract with WNY Roofing Company with Anthony Coppola for a new roof. The balance was paid in full on 8/28/2021 because I held back $600 until everything was corrected. The contract states Plywood not OSB. On June 7, 2022, I had a construction company come out to look at some work that needed to be done. During our conversation he asked me why I didn’t have the company that did my roof look at my gutters. I let him know I wasn’t satisfied with them and showed him pictures of what had been done. He then informed me that one of the pictures showed Plywood on top and OSB on the bottom. We proceed to go to the attic and he showed me where OSB was used. I need to send my attachments through the mail because some are in color. Once I receive the Complaint Number I will send them immediately. I went to City Hall and spoke with an inspector who called Mr Coppola while I was in his office and they came up with a settlement of $750. Anthony told the inspector that Plywood was very expensive and that he had our permission. My daughter had her house done at the same time to use OSB (not true). I will send information from two companies with prices of OSB and Plywood from last year? What good is it to have a contract if contractors can do what they want to do.Business response
07/13/2022
As stated at the time of said project plywood was approaching $100 per sheet. I will gladly compensate Ms. ******** the agreed upon amount of $750 to resolve the matter on both of these roofs. As explained to her OSB is a completely satisfactory bailable surface to the shingle manufacturers and does not effect the warranty in any way. I will have my attorney draft a letter along with an updated proposal stating OSB rather than plywood.Customer response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. I’m not satisfied and the company won’t even guarantee their work. If something would happen a $1000 won’t cover anything. I also filed with the Attorney General and I’ll see what they say. One of the reasons I also went with Anthony Coppola was he seemed to be honest, but I found out otherwise. Like I told him, your word is bond. Regards, ******* * ******Business response

My response was too large to email. Sorry, but I believe I have attempted to resolve this matter fairly and to Ms. *******'s concerns: 1.) I am willing to refund $1052.61 for price difference on both houses per Ms. ******'s docs. 2.) OSB does not affect her warranty. Copies of contract, warranty, product and installation information, and emails provided.
