We had our 2020 taxes completed by Eagle Professional Solutions (EPS) in early 2021 & paid them $100. We incurred expenses to resolve a mistake that was completed by EPS. I remember very clearly when we left the office asking ***** if we had paid all of the taxes owed for 2020 & he responded yes. ***** calculated the amount we owed & we provided a check for him to pay to the IRS. In 2022 we started receiving notices from the IRS about taxes that were past due from our 2020 return. When we called ***** about the notices we were receiving, he informed us that they were due to my husband’s W2 employer not paying their taxes. After investigating, we were informed by the IRS that it was due to a short pay on my self-employment taxes. After contacting ***** again we were still left with no resolution to the situation. We hired a certified CPS to review our taxes from the 2020 and 2021 years that were completed by EPS. We paid $350 for the review and found that EPS incorrectly deferred my self-employment taxes for the 2020 tax year along with other errors, but they were not significant enough to revise the returns. We paid both invoices from the IRS since the CPA confirmed they were due. In 2023 we received another letter from the IRS stating that we still had un-paid taxes. When we reached out to the CPA about this, she said that she could straighten this issue out for us for $500 or we could go back to the original accountant who did the 2020 taxes since he prepared the return incorrectly. I sent a few emails to ***** and received no response. The 1st email was sent on July 31, 2023 and second on August 2nd, 2023. It is now October 2nd and ***** still has not responded to our emails. We ended up paying $500 for the CPA to resolve the issue that was created by EPS and she was able to resolve the issue with the IRS. We do owe another $87.80 in penalties to the IRS. In total we have had to pay out an extra $937.80 to cover the mistakes made by EPS on our 2020 taxes.

    Business response

    01/04/2024

I explained to the customer that during the Covid 19 pandemic that the IRS was doing different kinds of credits for tax payers and that the credit or deferred of the self employment tax was one of these. I also explained that I was not sure how this deferred credit of the self employment tax worked and that they may receive a letter from the IRS. The customer response was that they would deal with it when that time would come if a letter was issued by the IRS. I did try to explain that I did not know anything about this deferred credit and all they cared about at the time is that their tax liability was decreased at the time of filing
