In Mid-Feb a Tues-Fri work was done by this contractor in my full bathroom.. He agreed he would supply the mater & install water proofing backer board behind the tile in the bathroom. He did not do that. The Job looked very amateurish & unprofessional. i paid him total $2,300 to tile shower area. He was to protect my tub while he was removing the old tile. He ruined my tub. Scratches, scrapes & chips in the enamel. He denied it. Said "He didn't do it". Plus he stole a $13.00 drill bit to install a towel bar. I bought it at ****** for him to use to install my towel bar. Then he didn't need it due to he drilled through plaster. He took it & I was going to return it to ******. This shows his work ethics.

In Mid-Feb a Tues-Fri work was done by me in the shower. The customer and I agreed
I would supply the install water
proofing backer board behind the tile in the
shower. I removed tiles and the existing backer boards were still in good shape, I patched existing backer boards instead of putting new one - they were as good as new.
The customer requested I cleaned up after each day so she could still take a bath as this was her only bathroom, I agreed and for four days I cleaned up after myself and she bathed at night, I removed tile on the first day of the project. She then had four days to bath in the tub and had no complaint of scratches or damages caused by taking out the tile.
On the last day she inspected the project and was happy with everything so she paid me the full amount of money. I protected the tub with covers every day. There was already scratches, scrapes, chips and stains in the tub as it’s an old tub. I did not steal any drill bit, the customer bought the drill bit and I used then I handed it back to her directly.
She had no complaints after the project was finished. I rechecked everything before I left. She was happy with the result. She paid me the money we agreed we then shook hands and I left.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:  the assertions made by Pronto Construction are simply not true. Their response is full of lies and I will respond to each one.

In addition, ***** ***** did not fulfill the contractual agreement. He did not discuss with me that he changed his mind when he decided not to supply materials and install waterproof backing behind tile. Without my consent, he decided for himself that he would not follow through on this part of our agreement. In addition, he did not adjust the price for this project, although this was clearly a savings for *****. And I suspect this was the reason for the change of plans.

I trusted ***** to do this part of the job as promised but he did not. Unfortunately, I did not discover this until later, after he had done the work and asked for his second and final payment. The first one half of his payment was supposed to be for purchasing supplies for the job, including backer board and screws to install waterproofing material in the shower area, which he did not.

***** concealed from me the fact that he did not purchase or install waterproof materials. He never mentioned this to me, it was never a topic of discussion until I made this part of my complaint. This shows deceit. He took advantage of me because he thought I would not know.

***** also concealed his damage to my tub by covering it nightly. He used plastic coating to cover the shower walls and thick blue tape to anchor it down on the tub. My tub was old, but was not damaged before ***** came to work at my house. It was a vintage cast iron tub with a nice shiny finish, and without blemish. There were no chips or scratches in the enamel and no paint scrapes before ***** removed the old tile. During the removal, I never saw him cover my tub, not once. He brought no tarp, no drop cloth, nothing to protect the tub from broken tiles and falling debris. I later discovered that he made a mess in my basement with debris falling from the walls above. He made no attempt to protect my property. Absolutely not true that they claim otherwise. Each morning I greeted ***** at the door and checked in on him often throughout each work day; I can say with certainty that he neglected to take the proper precautions. Their statement that I have only one bathroom in my home is false as well.

He showed no concern for my property and treated me with disrespect in my home.

On the last day that he was at my home, ***** asked me for a special drill bit that is used for ceramic although he did not use it for that purpose. He did not want to drill through the tile, he said. He claimed he could not install a towel bar, even though he had agreed to do so in the beginning. At the start, I asked him to replace the towel bar which was already there, installed through tile, and ***** said he would. In the end, he did not do what he said, and I was not pleased with the end result. However, I allowed ***** to use the special drill bit I had purchased and he took it when he left. He did not have permission to take it, and this also shows dishonesty.

Damaging my property was never part of the deal; reneging on terms of the contract was never part of the deal between ***** ***** and/or Pronto Construction and me. The expense of repairing damage is much more than I bargained for when I hired this contractor.

Each night when he finished work, ***** covered my tub with thick blue tape that he used to hold down plastic sheeting which covered the shower walls. This is why I did not notice damage right away. And I do have a second bathroom, contrary to their statement that I have only one bathroom in my home. Then, on the last day of work, Hassan instructed me not to shower or use the tub that day, to wait at least till 10 AM the following day. And I was exhausted, it had been a difficult week with *****. There were other problems not included here.

The next day, I discovered that my tub was ruined and immediately called ***** to discuss the problem. I reached him on his cell phone, but he refused to take responsibility. At that point, he had collected his money and considered this a closed matter.

For the record, I am not satisfied with any part of the work performed by ***** *****. I would not recommend Pronto Construction to anyone. I never shook hands with ***** *****, nor would I ever. I deeply regret that I hired him and he has completely destroyed my trust. Their statement that I was happy with this job is a total fabrication. And I believe that this true of everything about Pronto Construction - photos, claims to being professional and skilled, written reviews and ratings on Angie’s List and other platforms - all fabrications of the truth.

    Sincerely,

    ***** ******
