On May 14th, 2022 I visited an urgent care that gave me a paper order for an outpatient ankle X-ray and also faxed it to Mercy in Anderson. I arrived at the main entrance of Mercy to see a sign directing patients for outpatient procedures to check in at the ER entrance. I then checked in at the ER entrance after stating I was there only for an outpatient X-ray and handed over the order to the front desk attendant. I was checked in and the order paper was handed back to me. I was called back and told the nurse trying to take my vitals that I had already had my vitals taken and was just there for the outpatient X-ray. She insisted on taking my vitals anyways. I was sent to another room and someone came in to make sure i could feel my toes. I again stated I had already had this done and was just there with the outpatient X-ray order. Again they insisted on proceeding. Then my X-ray was taken and afterwards I was told they would read the X-ray. I brought up the order and said I didn’t want it read here since it was supposed to be sent to urgent care where I had received treatment. They said they had to read it here and they could send it wherever I wanted it sent once I checked out of the visit. Immediately afterwards I was approached by a billing employee who stated I would be charged for an ER visit and billed separately for the X-ray and also for the X-ray results. I attempted to clear up the situation only to be told they wouldn’t take the order and would still be charged as an ER visit which I did not know they had checked me in for. The doctor came back a few minutes later to state that the bone was not broken and they could prescribe ibuprofen, a wrap, and crutches, all of which I had already come in the door with. I refused any further treatment and was told to call the billing office to adjust the bill. After calling multiple times without the bill being adjusted I am still waiting to hear back about how to get this corrected to an outpatient visit.

My Daughter plays volleyball and sprained her ankle this season. We wanted to get her back in time for the end of the season so we decided to do PT at Mercy. We never discussed billing with them but were assuming that we would pay a fair price since we have been dealing with them for a long time and have never had an issue. When we got our bill I was shocked several of our visits were over $300 some look like they were close to $500 dollars. All that they did with her is ice her foot, stretch, do some light exercises, that is it. It looks like they were charging $140 for the ice treatment and $158 per exercise so if they do the ice treatment and 2 different exercises they billed us almost $500. My wife is a nurse at ********** ********* and that is where our insurance is through I can not imagine that we are the first ********** family to use Mercy Sports Therapy so I can not imagine why they would have not told us how much of their services would have to be paid out of pocket. If we would have known how much they were charging there is no way that we would have run up a $5,000 bill. ****** High School has a relationship with Mercy Sports and if this bill is not adjusted I plan on discussing their pricing with our Athletic Department.
