    Service or Repair Issues
    Status:
    Resolved
Issues Health & Safety – Not notified of start date until an hour before arrival. Owner brought an ill workman to home of the elderly homeowners. Several bathroom trips required, (it would have been inhumane to refuse). Major disinfection required upon leaving, Equipment – workers did not have the tools needed to complete the job. Homeowner drills and crowbar used for several days. (Should have had set of sawhorses to prevent damage to handrail noticed after leaving jobsite). Knowledge and skill – errors pointed out on several occasions, not all would or could be corrected. Not all work completed as agreed to. Handrail replaced with spliced boards instead of single section. Spindles under handrail needed to be replaced not completed (3). Gates created but not hung at homeowner request so he could remake them correctly using adequate hardware for outside use. Damage – Large planter broken, not replaced. Handrail scared and damaged as it was used in place of sawhorses. Waste wood, screws found all around work area after leaving. Work area left in disarray, debris not cleaned up, pots and furniture not returned to original sites – left for elderly homeowners to complete. Finance – estimate very vague, did not have pricing for supplies. Check was demanded for supplies and was written for half of estimate so when issues arose, homeowners felt they had to continue to prevent financial losses. Final price presented 33% higher than estimate. Homeowner requested itemized bill, unable to provide, became agitated during questioning of costs, no receipts given.

Customer was given an estimated price of $5000, we bought materials, no reason for me to give customer a receipt for wood and wood nails. We did call customer the day before, no answer - so office called. I also told customer the job would be started in the next 2 weeks before signing contract. The worker I brought was a new guy, he had cancer. I gave him a chance and had to fire him because of this.

Homeowner is a retired carpenter and he wanted to help, not realizing he was in our way. He brought his tools out and we had of every tool. Planter was broken and I told him we would pay for it. We went over and over the contract said floor only to her work off the floor and the joists were rotten, that's why another $1500 was added.

We just want this behind us, let us know what we can do to make it right.

Response to Business Complaint ID ********
The response to our complaint is indicative of the business practices and lack of professionalism of Mr. Turner

Has the company addressed the issues of this dispute?
         * If not, why?
No, we still do not have an itemized receipt to clearly delineate what was purchased for our deck and labor charges.
True, additional work was needed to add wood to some of the joists due to wood rot. Discussed during estimate process but no charges discussed.
True, as a retired carpenter husband was very aware of the poor quality of work and pointed out their numerous mistakes at the end of each day hoping they would rectify the errors, they did not. His opinion was sought out by the workers and did not get in their way.
Homeowners professional tools were requested every single day since the tools they brought were inadequate for the job, and our concern was to get the deck completed correctly.
Job took entirely too long, three days, indicating the workers did not have the skill nor the equipment to complete the job correctly.
Job was not finished and was actually completed by homeowners.
Deck boards did not have correct number of screws fastened to joist. Homeowner had to purchase more screws and complete job taking about four hours of time.
Broken planter – not replaced $115.00
Planters and furniture not returned to original location. Homeowners spent two hours putting items in place, additional difficulty due to broken planter.
Scrap wood, nails, trash, cigarette butts had to be cleaned up from yard taking about two hours of time.
Gates were in process and substandard hardware was being used. At this point homeowners so upset with damage to handrails and quality of work, they completed them.

         * If an offer of resolution was made, has the company fulfilled the proposed offer?
Homeowners are requesting a refund of $1500.00 due to additional work, planter replacement, and materials purchased and correctly completed by homeowners

This is the only document we received despite requesting a final, itemized bill.  The owner became abusive and we were very uncomfortable with his presence..

Based on our experiences with this unprofessional, unskilled, and disrespectful company, we were not at all surprised that no check was received. This company treated us very badly and our whole goal was to warn others, especially the elderly to beware of their predatory practices. We did not receive anything much less the check we were told to expect as of 9/2/2023.

    Customer response

    11/13/2023

We did get a check but it was last week, not in October as promised - based on all the past lies, I was surprised.

Despite "Carpentry" noted as part of the business name, it was clear after the first day they did not have the knowledge or skills to correctly rebuild a deck. The homeowners professional tools were requested and used over the course of multiple days on the job as they did not have the right equipment nor adequate supplies to complete the job. Professionalism and attitude began to decline as the length of the job progressed and damage to deck and planter was noted. Completion, purchase of additional supplies, and job site clean up were left up to the elderly homeowners  to complete despite full payment over 50% of estimate. Beware of hiring this company.
