    Business response

    03/17/2022

*** **** and has been into our shop four times in the last 13 months. We are unclear as to which of these visits he is referencing in this complaint.

On March 13, 2021 he brought in his **** **** ******t with the issue of a battery light illuminated. At that time, his alternator was found to be bad and was replaced for $555.62.
On March 19, 2021 he returned with the issue of a belt that had come off. The technicians reattached his belt and advised him of other issues they saw while his car was in the shop. At that visit his oil pan and gasket, his front brake pads and rotors and his battery terminal were replaced. He was also advised at that visit that he would need his front subframe replaced but he declined that service. The total paid for new front brake pads and rotors, a new battery terminal and a new oil pan with gasket was $700.00.
On October 29, 2021 *** **** brought the **** ******* back to have the front subframe replaced. The technicians advised him he would also need a few additional parts to complete the subframe repair. At this visit his front subframe was replaced along with both front stabilizer links, a stabilizer bar bushing and one tie rod end. He was also advised of needing both rear wheel bearings replaced as well as both rear cv axles, but declined both services. The total paid for the new front subframe, stabilizer links, bushing and tie rod end was $1304.04.

Yesterday (March 15, 2022) *** **** returned with the **** ******* stating the battery light was again illuminated. The technicians tested the charging system (battery, alternator, starter), the fuses and wiring harnesses and found them all to be in working order. At this point *** **** was advised that he likely had an issue with his ECM (electronic control module - aka vehicle computer) and should have it looked at by a Jeep dealer as Rainbow Muffler does not service computer modules. At that point *** **** took his vehicle and left the premises.

Today *** **** Sr. (father of customer, ****** ****) called our shop and spoke with the desk manager. In that conversation *** **** Sr. told the Rainbow Muffler desk manager that they had taken the Jeep to another shop and the mechanics at this other shop believed the alternator (that Rainbow Muffler installed on 3/13/21) to be bad. Despite the fact that *** *****s vehicle was out of warranty (12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first) and that the alternator was already found to be in good working order the day prior, our desk manager offered to replace his alternator as a courtesy with no charge to *** ****.
Later today, *** **** Jr. called the shop again, apparently after speaking with his father, to decline the offer from our manager for a no-cost, out-of-warranty courtesy replacement, instead demanding a refund for work performed over a year ago. He was advised by our desk manager that while we could not return his money, we would be happy to do the courtesy replacement. At that point, *** **** abruptly ended the call.
