On April 19,2021 we signed a contract with Good News Builders,*** **** **** ****** ************* ** *****. The contract was to remove existing deck/rails, reframe upper deck, new beam, support post. New decking/handrails/P.T. posts/runners/spindles. Bad framing would be replaced, if needed, beams would be added under lower deck/new stairs. Projected start date, 8-10 weeks out. We paid a deposit of 1/3 of total cost, in the amount of $2600.00. As the end of the 10 weeks approached, we had not received any phone calls with a start date. We called and were told the weather had been a factor and work would begin soon and that the deck would be finished by Labor Day. No phone calls with a start date, so end of August, we called and were told that we would receive a phone call within 7-10 days. We didn't receive a phone call. Called again, at one point we were told that one of the tradesmen had been in a horrible accident and they were behind, we understood the delay that could happen. In October, we called again and were told they were behind because of COVID. Our contact was Mr. C. B****. Late October, we were told that the deck would be finished in November. At this point, with the lack of communication/multiple delays, we did not want to invest any more money with GNB and requested a full refund. GNB offered to lower the price, but we were afraid of losing more money and we did not accept the offer. After more calls, GNB mentioned a restocking fee but then agreed to a full refund within 10-15 working days, by certified check. Nothing received. December 14, 2021, we were told that within 10-15 days we would receive a certified check. Nothing received. In March 2022, we were told they were waiting on the lumber company. May 2, 2022 we were told they were still waiting on lumber company but money should be received anytime. Phone calls on May 17 and June 2, 2022 have not been returned. We would like a full refund of $2600.00Business response

I am rejecting this response because: we have been given this response multiple times. Thank you, Good News Builders, for your response. On December 14, 2021, we were told we would receive a full refund by certified check within 10-15 days. We have been waiting since the end of December 2021. Several phone calls have been made since then, always initiated by us. In the response from Good News Builders, there isn't a time frame mentioned, it has already been six months. Also, when a restocking fee was mentioned by Good News Builders during previous phone calls, the fee was quoted at 20%. In the response from Good News Builders, the restocking fee is now quoted at 30%. We stand by our original desired settlement of a full refund. Thank you.

Hi, I had contracted GNB for building 3 season room and composite deck. So far, I paid $26,526.00. After lot of initial delays, GNB finally got the permit done and holes dug last november. After that the Engineer - Renard transferred the work back to Michael. Mike contacted in March 2022 and since then it has been several promised dates for 'post' installation - without any proper communication. There is so much more work pending. If this is being delayed, I am worried rest of the work will not be done. This is my hard-earned money. I am lost complete faith in the company and would like a full refund. - *******Business response

I met with Mike and signed a contract with Good News Builders on March 27, 2021 about having a front porch and sidewalk done with brick pavers. I was given a start date of May 22, 2021 which was 8 weeks out. I gave them half the cost of $1300.00. The 3rd week of May I called to see what was going on because I had not heard from anyone. A lady answered the phone and said that she would pass my message to the owner. No call back. I called back because it is now past the start date and told her that if I did not receive a call back from someone I was going to contact six on your side. Immediately I received a call back from Charles. I asked where was Mike and was told that he was in a car accident. He told me it would be a couple of weeks before they could start the work. Fast forward, they did not start the work until September. The day that my family and I were flying out for vacation was the day they showed up at my house. When I looked on my front camera I could see work trucks but no workers. Something told me to look at my camera out back and there they were. I had to call Charles while on a plane and ask what in the heck was going on. Why are they in my back yard laying pavers over a brand new patio slab. I couldn't understand it as my contract strictly stated sidewalk and front porch. When we got home from vacation no work had been done. Finally the 3rd week of September they came out to start the work. It took them 3 weeks to complete the job. However the work is horrible! Within the 1st week the bricks started falling off. We called them and was told we have a years warranty and they would repair it. As of now April 2022 we cannot use our front door. it's unsafe. We have had people to slip and one to fall. Some of the bricks have fallen off the porch and the rest are so loose you cant even walk on it. I have been calling and no one is answering or returning my calls. I would like a refund. this is the worst job ever. I have contacted an attorney.Business response
04/27/2022
We have no record of this client calling for service there's a year warranty on our work. If bricks are falling out we have no problem reinstalling them. However no refund will be grantedCustomer response
05/06/2022
I am rejecting this response because: I have been calling and have left several messages with the business line and with the personal number I have for Charles. They have not returned any of my messages. It’s not a matter of bricks being reinstalled. It’s a matter of the work being done correctly. The bricks will continue to fall unless they are cut and installed correctly.

Again don't want to have to go back and forth over whether this current contact with the office we have no record of that happening. You're not being said you give a one year warranty enough product we have no clue what she's talking about cutting the brick and installing them right. We've been installing brick covers for over 20 years. Getting anything that's what you're going to do there's a one year warranty will come out repair however a refund will not be granted.Customer response
05/09/2022
I am rejecting this response because: We wouldn’t have to go back and forth if they would return my calls. They have a bad reputation for communicating with their customers. That speaks for itself right there. They need to come out to my house repair my bricks and seal my sidewalk and porch like they told me they would do. Why do I need to reach out to you to complete a job you didn’t finish. I have never seen such unprofessionalism in my life. I guess you can take peoples money and treat them like this. True judgement day is coming. They need to contact me. They know the job isn’t complete. I will not be calling them back.

6/23/21 on Proposal. Had Good News Builders (GNB) come out and give Proposal. I liked what they had to say as far as building Deck 10x12 no stairs just a simple deck. Wanted $4000, $2000 up front rest when done. Said they where running 8 to 10 weeks out. Said maybe Aug 2021 but more likely Sept 2021. It would be done by end of Sept 2021. Sept came and went, nothing. No calls so called them, GNB said running behind but everyone would be done by end of Nov 2021. Again Nothing, no calls etc.. Called Dec 2021 said yes they ready to start on my deck. They'll call to have the ground marked and I should call them back as soon as it done. They never called to have ground marked. Called to ask why, he said he though office did. Called back said office calling now. 3pm that day called and no utilities marking were scheduled for my address. Any way took 3 calls to them and 2.5 weeks to get ground marked. 3 days later guy came dough 2 holes left. I had to buy boards to cover holes. They left them open. Now April 8,2022 no work done. Called twice this week and no return calls from GNB. Tried both numbers to get status. Nothing. I want my $2000 back.Business response

I signed a contract with Good News Builders on 6-18-21 for a deck to be built in a ten-week timeframe. The contract value is $14,900. The middle of July, I followed up for a start date on project, as I had heard from no one. At that time I was asked to supply survey info on my property, which I did. The middle of September, I followed up with both the City of Powell and my HOA to check on the status of the submittals that ******* told me had been submitted and both confirmed that they had not received anything from Good News Builders. I routinely called ******* and was given reasons for delays. The beginning of December, I told him that if the deck was not done by the end of the year, I wanted the $5000 deposit refunded. The week of 12/20 a crew was at my house to dig posts and assured me it would be completed in 2-3 weeks time and asked for another $5000, which I gave him. It is now March 24, 2022 and my concrete patio and yard have been torn up with no progress. I am requesting a refund of $10,000 minus the cost of materials that have been used. I would like to see the itemized list for wood and concrete before the deduction is made. Good News Builders breached the contract they signed with me and I have given them ample opportunity for resolution.Business response

No additional work has been on the deck. I had no use of my back door and and had to pay someone to come put boards over it so that my dogs could go outside to the backyard. In my most recent conversations with *******, he stated that the deck will be complete by Memorial Day. Originally it was end of April, then mid-May, now end of May. For obvious reasons, I am not hopeful. My yard is a mess.Business response

Due to resource availability we are having a difficult time keeping skilled help, we're doing everything in our power to complete projects one at a time in the most efficient time without sacrificing quality. Weather permitted in all goes well we should have this project completed in July 2022.Customer response
07/29/2022
I am rejecting this response because: I still do not have a completion date from the company. Every time I have been given a date it comes and goes with no communication from them. I follow up daily via texts and calls and now get no response at all. I have made the offer to talk and amicably resolve this and no one will do that. I have asked for a portion of my money back, the job to be completed or the materials delivered to my home and I will have someone else finish the job. This is more than reasonable for what this company has put me though for the past 14 months. I have spent. $10,000 on approximately $2000 worth of work. They could have the decency to be honest with all of these customers and produce a schedule and adhere to it. If they have no intention on finishing this work, that is fine too- just refund $8000.

On April 29, 2021 I got a quote that seemed reasonable for a new composite deck. 8 weeks start time. Gave them $3500. By the middle of July I had not heard from them. Called and left messages. Finally heard from Charles that there was a horrendous accident and that they were really backed up. Ok, I’m a reasonable person. Finally, end of September after many many many many calls, they claim to be there to start the deck. They don’t have any of the plans but they start digging holes. I have to make sure I’m there because they have no idea of what I had asked for. One of the holes went right through my newly installed storm drain lines that I had told them were there. Oh, we will fix it. A week went by and many calls again to Charles (my only contact) and he sends out someone to fix my drain pipes. It was fixed by putting together a concoction of drain pipes around the post that has now been cemented into the ground. It may or may not be solid, but it has been now sitting open to the weather since October. All winter. They claimed the composite decking was not in stock anywhere but that they would be back when it came in stock . That was last October and I have heard anything from anyone since then. I was very leery but Charles insisted that if I didn’t give them the next check they couldn’t order the material. So now they’ve have $7000 and have appeared to disappear. I am beyond heartbroken. They will be hearing from my lawyer soon. I need a refund of all my money. The last time I spoke with Charles he hung up on me.Business response

Last year our supplier had a difficult time getting decking we explain this to the homeowner that the color she chose would not be available until later in the year November. We had a few projects with this issue we're looking to get everyone completed within the next two months, we're down to one crew from fiveCustomer response

This is unacceptable because I have continued to be lied to. Charles scheduled a time on March 24 to come out and at least make the area usable so I could use my back door. I waited all day. Nobody came out. Nobody called. I’ve not heard from him or anyone else since. This is an example of the typical interaction from this builder.
This was my last straw. I gave them one more chance to make it right. They blew the opportunity.
I want a refund. Nothing else is acceptable at this point.

We feel that a full refund is totally unacceptable considering most of the work is done therefore we request this complaint the settled through arbitration, which is clearly stated in our agreement any disagreement Shell be handled through arbitration we will abide by the arbitrators final decision. In these difficult times we're using all my resources to complete projects one at a time. Our some serious apology for the delays, been request arbitration to settle this dispute, again as spelled out in our agreementInitial Complaint

Last Friday, they put shingles on roof. Now, they have to: do the electric, ceiling fan, repair concrete, finish the roof
I asked them when they'd be back, and the worker said he didn't know because he was only hired to do one part, this happens with the sub-contractors they send out.
