This project was done hastily to get it done and be on to the next job without any care for quality or care for the customer. It was said to be done incorrectly by an independent inspector and has absolutely terrible craftsmanship. Despite pictures and complaints the owner does not care who says what now that he has been paid. Every complaint receives a lazy and halfhearted excuse as to why the owner is right and the customer is wrong with no desire to fix a problem and there are many problems. Do your research and at all costs avoid working with CMR. It is a company run by angry irresponsible people who just want your money.

    Hello ****,

Thank you for taking the time to write this complaint, however we disagree with your statements.

Your project was completed over 2 years ago in September 2022 and PASSED INSPECTION by two different building inspectors for your county - which you are fully aware.  To satisfy your concerns, we contacted the building inspectors directly and they agreed to meet at your home again, which you declined a few weeks ago when we last spoke. I understand another company is giving you this information/feedback.  Since this is highly unprofessional we contacted the business, that you specifically named, that allegedly spoke negatively about our build. The owner said he was never at your home, nor his salesperson and hasn't done any job quoting or work in your area.  So I am unclear on this...

We have always listened to your past concerns and addressed them, so I not sure why you are stating there are "Service Issues" with our company.  The Owner himself came out to replace the manufacturer defected rail post dress ring, at no cost to you. There is one pending issue that we thought was fixed on September 5, 2024, but understand now that we need to address again.  Just last week you sent in photo's of your deck boards gapping, which is the nature of composite decking, it expands and shrinks as the weather changes. We are not trying to argue with you, as you state, but this is not a workmanship issue. Composite decking is simple made that way.

Obviously, you felt the need to write this comment, even though we already said we would handle your issues (as we have over the past two years). Furthermore, even though your warranty has expired with us, we have NEVER said we wouldn't take care of you, nor have we ever ignored your concerns.  You specifically asked us to wait until the current contractor is done working in your backyard.

Please let us know when you want to meet with the local inspectors.

    Thank you,

On November 3, 2023, we signed a contract with CMR for a new patio, pergola, landscape and pergola lighting, and built-in gas fire pit and paid a 50% deposit. The project has encountered delays from the beginning and we are now 9 months into the contract. The primary subcontractor responsible for installing the patio has reached out to us directly to let us know that they have concerns that they will not be paid by CMR and could put a lean on our house for the unpaid balance of around $25k. Recently we have seen visible concerns of installation done by CMR employees including: pergola lighting (lights dangling out of position), fan hook up (fan’s internal wiring exposed to elements), and landscape wiring not done to code (exposed copper wiring and mixing different gauged wires). We no longer trust CMR’s quality of work and wish to dissolve our remaining contract. When we brought up concerns directly to the owner of CMR, specifically on the fan hook-up, he told us that there was no issue. We need to agree on a fair final payment for quality work completed, receive proof that proper permit procedures were followed, and proof that subcontractors are paid in full and that we have no further liability as homeowners. We have also reached out to the pergola manufacturer to confirm pergola installation has been done to their specifications after noticing a visible difference between our installation and pictures on their website. We have paid 75% of the contract totally $86,122.22 and have already incurred additional costs (to be billed) to correct the landscape lighting wiring before patio installation was completed last week. This work was completed by the subcontractor after his crew flagged the electrical risk to us while on the jobsite.

    Hello **** & ********,

I have read your comments submitted to the BBB and find it very unfortunate that you choose not to speak to us directly on this matter.  Several items you listed are, in fact, false.  Some other concerns were never addressed with me, so I am not sure how I can fix something I have no knowledge of.

The subcontractor you are referencing has been with us for several years and we choose to no longer do business with him due to his conduct with our clients.  It is disheartening and highly unprofessional that he is telling you untruthful things about our company.

We will address some of these issues/accusations publicly, since this is a public forum, and you have elected to slander my business name.

     - A subcontractor cannot put a Lien on a property.  The original contractor can do this with a signed contract.

    - Never, have we not paid this subcontractor in the history of our business dealings.

    - Delays in the project timeline are frustrating, for everyone involved, and we understand that.  We cannot control manufacturer production lead times, delivery times or weather delays.

    - You did make us aware of the fan issue, which was fixed by us shorty after we were notified by you.

    - I was not aware of an immediate electrical risk on your low voltage landscape wiring.  It appears that you had direct verbal conversations with the subcontractor and you authorized him to perform work at your home without our knowledge.

You have two signed contracts (the original and a second contract for hardscape lighting) with us for your project - not the subcontractor.  It is from my point-of-view that the subcontractor chose to have side conversations with you on how we build, and you took his word for it, without a discussion between you and myself.

It is your choice to move forward and have a conversation with us directly or exercise Arbitration of Disputes clause that is shown in the contract that you signed.

We will reach out to you next week to see how you would like to proceed on this matter.   It is my hopes that we can resolve this ourselves professionally, without slander, and without the need for litigation.

You have such a beautiful backyard project, and as a business owner, I am proud of how it looks.  Yes, we hit some bumps in the road, as do most large construction projects that are multifaceted.  I have been in business for 23 years and our quality of work and company standards should not be defined by the words of a subcontractor that we terminated business with.

    Respectfully,
    C**** Evert

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

We made a fair and reasonable offer to the business directly, via email. They have responded, but we are still discussing terms that both parties can agree to.

    Regards,

    **** & ******** *****

We hired CMR to do a deck and outdoor patio with a fireplace. They put a fireplace insert that says for use indoors only in our outdoor patio. They did not follow ** code guidelines for installation of the electric and now refuse to have an inspection done when that is required to be done by ** county and state guidelines. They started to fix some things but CMR now says they won’t finish the job unless we agree to new terms even though we already have a contract in place and have paid for 2/3 of the job according to our present contract. I have text messages with the owner of the company that proves they have scammed all their previous clients by putting this indoor only fireplace insert in their outdoor patios and have also put previous clients and their families at risk by having people install electric that are not licensed professionals and putting an indoor fireplace outdoors that can lead to a potential fire and safety hazard. Their own employees have admitted to us that they need more training with electric. I don’t want this to happen to anyone else. They keep saying that they will finish the job if we agree to their new terms but we signed a contract already and are not going to sign a new agreement. They are trying to get out of the terms that are in the contract but still want the same amount of money. They also want us to agree not to speak about their company because they admitted in texts they have done this to all their clients. So at this point the job is not complete and they are refusing to complete it. We are not signing a new agreement when we already have a contract in place, unless they want to renegotiate the price since they are not complying with the terms of the contract and we will have to hire a licensed professional to fix things and get it up to code. We want to warn people this company has scammed past clients and will scam future clients also. They will try to force you to renegotiate the terms or not complete the job.

CMR installed a patio in November of 2021. It has a covered roof and the roof is separating from the joist due to improper installation. I have called 3 times and left a message with my name, phone number and reason for the call. No one from CMR has contacted me about this. This construction project is under warranty and they are not fulfilling their obligation. They screws that they used are the improper ones that are needed.
