i hired nick ******** though home depot referral program. i was hesitant at first because with a google search i found 2 negative reviews for an “inghram repairs” that mentioned his name. he assured me that was his friends company. i liked him and he was friendly and personable and said he could do what i wanted done to the kitchen. i gave a deposit 4/1 for 50%. he said start date was 4/29. this was pushed back a few times then started 5/20 where he stated he was bringing materials that morning, but didn’t show up til 8pm. this same week he stated he needed more money because he had spent the 50% already on materials. this was not mentioned prior, just that 50 up front and then the rest at the end. after the cabinets were dropped off the next day the work was started and i was told granite company would be there to measure. they didn’t show. i was told he had the day wrong and they’d be there the next day. still did not show. 3rd day with no warning (nick was not reachable as he left for vacation, not sure why we started when he would be unreachable) they said they called him and got no response. anyways, they showed up while i wasn’t home because again i was not made aware. luckily i got home before they left and it was completed. it’s been a month and my kitchen isn’t finished. i asked 3 times last week for an end date as im having surgery in july and wanted it completed prior. i’m still missing a cabinet, a shelf, the back splash, and miscellaneous minor things. my kitchen has been torn up for over a month. again, i asked 3 times last week (monday, weds, friday) for a completion date and he would not give me one. my friday text was not responded to at all. i found someone else to finish the job this month as he wouldn’t give me a date and ignored my questions about the missing items. he finally responded sunday - 6 days after my first ask, but still had not answered my questions. i hired someone else and would like some money back, but he says no.

I was hired to do this kitchen remodel and received down payment to order materials. Cabinets were ordered along with other items and Granite countertops both of which have a lead-time of at least four weeks. This customer knew my schedule was busy and this job was booked out a month or two. Prior to starting the kitchen job she called me for other items in her house. Replaced her gutters, rebuilt her chimney and did some other work for her and everything was completed as promised. Once we started the kitchen, everything was going fine but things need to be done in order. Cabinets were installed countertop people came out to do. The template car stops were installed two weeks later and we came back to do electrical drywall and other items on the list, the countertop people, missed a piece of windowsill under the window above the sink. Which left us unable to install the backsplash until that piece was installed. She was supposed to be scheduling with them directly as she requested for their information to have them come out and install that piece as you can see from my messages with her I asked her to update me on when they would be out to do that , once they came up to install that piece we would’ve been out to complete the backsplash and install a small cabinet and a shelf. My thought is that the Contractor I hired to do the job and her made some type of an agreement and went behind my back to complete the rest of this job without me so she can save money and he can make more money. That Contractor has done that to me before and also her very sudden change in demeanor leads me to believe this from the messages I attached above you can see from her original complaint she is lying, she said I didn’t contact her for seven days when in fact, you can see we were messaging all week the week. She says that I did not respond to her. We sent about 15 messages back-and-forth that Wednesday I replied to her on Friday, letting her know that I was extremely busy and would get back to her with the schedule , then on Sunday to Confirm the countertop people for Monday, but she did not respond on Sunday. Then she responded Monday saying she was hiring another contractor because I ignored her all week. There was never lapsed of communication with us and there was also a few weeks in there where we were deciding on backsplash and tile ideas. All-in-all she paid about $9000 and received new cabinets, new granite countertops, we extended out her kitchen, built a wall, installed new electrical outlets, brand new electrical under her sink, installed a new garbage disposal and installed all new sink and plumbing. As a general contractor, I generally don’t make any money until the end of the job on the last payment. So in reality, she broke the contract by hiring a new contractor and I didn’t make a penny.

    Regards,

    ********* *****

i have multiple screen shots i can send like he did showing where i sent messages with no response, but it limits me to 5- is there a way i can email these directly to someone? this will prove he isn’t being 100% honest. yes he had other stuff done during this time frame as well, but that isn’t the topic of concern. but if he wants to discuss that we can as well where he also lied during that- he backed into the gutter i had just paid to fix but told the guy who fixed it he hadn’t done it right. the worker came and said it looked like someone hit it so i said it was hit. so again, another instance of him lying…

im not saving money i am spending more money because i have to pay someone else to finish this job because as i mentioned i asked 3x for an end date and didn’t get one. i was not happy with the lack of responses. he told me the granite company told him that they wanted to deal with me directly, but every time i called them they said they called him/emailed him, etc and couldn’t get ahold of him or reach him (whether of vacation or not). even with the final date where they were bringing the missing piece the lady said she called and left him a message, but he didn’t have the information when i asked. they did not say anything about calling me. they wouldn’t even let me see the paperwork for the install because they said it was for nick and not me. nick is not being truthful about this, and as stated i have the texts messages to prove that i asked on that monday, weds, and friday for an end date. why would i ask 3x for this information and be HAPPY that i was not given any information for it?

as stated, ive asked for him to give a break down of his expenses. he refuses to do this. he is claiming he hasn’t made money in his response? that’s not true. put the expenses down, take a fair cut, and give me some back to cover the cost of finishing the job. the granite company said it was roughly 3600 when i asked this week and told them i cut ties. he quoted 4500. so theres almost 1k there. over 6k for labor, but only half the labor was done. cabinets i’m sure were quoted high and we also didn’t get all the materials as mentioned in missing a shelf and cabinet for that quote. he has made more money off this than he should have and for him to say he hasn’t made anything is not truthful. like i said, i want him to get paid for his effort and his work, but i also don’t want to be overcharged for work that was not done because i was happy with the lack of communication during the final stages of this process. as a company he should be able to provide the receipts and proof to back his statement. i paid him 9588.50 so take his expenses for cabinets and granite and labor, a cut for him, then send the difference back to me to put towards the other company completing it. he attached screen shots that even show he didn’t respond, but why not send the pictures of the expenses.
