I paid $75 for a family membership to a fishing club on 7/21/24. On 8/3/24 my membership was immediately revoked due to alegedly violating a rule stating *no alcohol is permitted on the property." 8/3/24 was my 3rd time visiting the club. The person working there did not give me a chance to explain the situation. They were quick to take my membership card and insist I leave immediately. Had they given me the opportunity I could have explained that another person on the property kindly offered me an adult beverage, and I accepted. I proceeded to open the beverage and had taken one drink, as I had only been there a short time. A couple minutes later one of the employees approached and informed me of the rule, I told her I would dump it out. I had been given a copy of the rules when paying, but did not look at them closely, as I'm not one to cause any trouble. After looking at the rule, it specifically states that alcohol is not permitted, and I did not bring any alcohol. I accepted an alcoholic beverage from someone else, under the assumption that it was allowed. My membership being terminated is a drastic course of action, considering I was a member for less than 2 weeks, and did not personally bring the alcohol on the premises. I would like a full refund or my membership to be reinstated.

First let me start by saying we have a zero tolerance for alcohol. there are signs at the entrance. signs at the bait shop, and signs posted on our information board. it is in bold print and underlined at the top of the rules. When you inquired about a membership, you verbally agreed to the rule of no alcohol. When the other member offered you alcohol, you did not have to take it, open it, or drink it. You were given a chance to tell your side. You simply apologized and said you didn't read the rules thoroughly. The other member was also removed from the premises and his membership revoked. When you became a member, you signed an acknowledgement stating you understood the rules and that you also understood there were no refunds. I am attaching sample copies of these particular documents. Due to privacy protection your signed copies are not being represented. If you would like to see those, feel free to speak with the county sheriff and make an arrangement to receive them. We will not be returning your fees nor will we be reinstating your membership. Unfortunately zero tolerance is just that. No alcohol is permitted.

[If you do not say why you are rejecting the company's response, BBB must close your complaint.]

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

Considering the circumstances, you should be ashamed of how you handled this situation. I was a new member, had not visited even a handful of times, was respectful and not causing slightest disturbance, and was looking forward to sharing positive experiences with others in the local community. A reminder and a warning, or even leaving for the day would have sufficed. I encourage you to use your discretion in the future. Not all people you do not know are bad people.

    Regards,
