We contracted Village Catering Company's services for our wedding, and the primary issue is that we paid for 4 special meals(vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.) that we did not receive during the event or at the end of the night. No one requested the meals at dinner, and the catering company left with them at the end of the night, despite leaving the rest of the food. My wife sent an email explaining the situation, and was denied a refund for the meals even though they were not eaten, offered, or packed along with the other food that we did take home. We received an explanation saying that the food is housed in "separate catering equipment" and "cannot be left...because there is no way to package those meals separately." Admittedly, I have limited knowledge of the catering business and catering equipment however I struggle to understand how any kind of food cannot be transferred from one receptacle to another. During the limited contact we've had with the HR manager, she asked for a reason regarding why no one asked for the meals at dinner and I explained in the email chain that I felt the more important matter was that we paid for food that we did not receive during the event or at the end of the night. I have attached the email correspondence with the company, as well as the final invoice. Please let me know if there is other information that would be useful. Most of the dates and granular pricing information are in the emails and invoices. I can provide other documents if necessary, and there were multiple disputes regarding the price and invoice as well as a $1400 billing inaccuracy we needed to address leading to the event. We are requesting a refund for the 4 meals, as well as the tax and 22% fee associated with the extra $100.

Signed a contract in 2021, wedding was 10/14/2023. Specialty meals including Vegan, Gluten Free, and Vegetarians for over 10 people did not get served or even brought with to serve causing table portions to be inconsistent. Paid additional fees for family style serving and setup/cleanup service - neither services performed by staff but instead by mother of brides. Staff members onsite - TWO people for 135 guests were lazy and no accountability - no supervision and no motivation. Found out the owner of company scheduled own PARENTS to work our wedding - unacceptable. It has been two weeks since the event and first notice to company on refund request and still no remedy as of today except a text message sent by HR over a week later. Our wedding evening was ruined as guests couldn't eat, staff was rude, and they did not perform to their contract terms. We received a $3,000 service instead of service reflecting our $8,000 invoice!

    Business response

    10/25/2024

This particular issue was resolved in small claims court on 2/7/2024. The hearing was at 11:00 AM that day. We refunded 100% of the items and services that were not provided on the final invoice. The comments on staffing were not accurate. There were 4 individuals on this particular job, and two additional delivery employees for specialty meals. Unrelated to results, the owners parents were not involved with the job. The gentleman leading the job had almost 10 years of catering experience at the time of service. Our culinary team did miss the specialty meals. Day of, we offered a full refund OR them to be prepped/made immediately and delivered in a timely manner. Clients chose to receive the meals. A refund of $767.75 was issued the same day of the hearing, but was previously offered prior to.
