I have a manufactured home that was moved in 40 years ago. It was built in 2 sections. It was set on a concrete block perimeter with very little blocks down the middle. I was given a quote of $16,500 to lift it with house leveling beams slightly above the existing block, run 5 stringers under it, pull the sections back together, then set it back down on level. I was told me once it is done they will check it with a level and it should be nearly perfect. They told me over time it will settle a little and they will come back and adjust it free of charge. The owner employs 3 hispanic guys that can barely speak english. He will turn them loose and let them do their job. He will threaten to walk off the job if you tell him if there's a problem with something because he knows he can't effectively communicate with them. He will lead you to believe its best to wait until the end and then he will make the problems right. Once you start highlighting problems he dodges you and then bails. He did not do anything he said he would and left the job unfinished. When I tried to address my problems, he argued and says he can't please me. I fired him after suggesting he will get his materials out from under my house and refund me. I withheld his final payment. When he called me to see If id settle by paying him less, I told him to get out here and do it right. He argued that I kicked him off. I told him he was kicked to prevent him from undoing his work. I told him if he wishes to come back and finish, by all means. He asked if I would settle for less on the final payment. I offered to pay his labor and material cost and he could refund me $6500. He laughed at the offer and I asked why wouldn't he accept it when he was willing to get his materials and take a total loss by refunding $8250. When I gave him the down payment, I expected an agreement. All i got was an invoice that vaguely described leveling a house "to the best we can in the eyes of god" I found out he's unlicensed too.
