My name is Teressa *********. I'm a single, 62 year old woman. My A/C wasn't cooling, so I called Excel Heat and Air at the ****** location to check it out and give me a quote. Josh *******, the owner, came by on 7-7-22. He ran some diagnostics, took apart the unit, got ** in my attic, and after about an hour, he gave me three options for repairs. The first quote was a staggering $20,000+! I told him my brand new heat and air unit I bought in 2014 only cost $7,000, how could this possibly be more than that! He said there was so, so much more wrong than he anticipated and I also needed some duct work etc. replaced in my attic. I told him I was going to pay him the $179 service call and get another quote. He got incredibly incensed and said, "don't you even want to hear the other quotes?" I said, "no, I'm getting another opinion." He kept pushing and I finally said, bottom line, what's the least expensive quote and he said "$2,500." I don't know if his plan was to shock me with the first quote so the third didn't seem so high, but it backfired. I KNEW he was trying to rip me off and I wanted him out of my house. I gave him my check. He just kept pushing. He even said he wouldn't have gone to all the trouble looking over the unit if he'd known I wasn't going to give him the job. I started feeling threatened and would not let him back in my house. He left, but about 15 minutes later, I saw his white van drive past my house. I think he might have stopped if there hadn't been another vehicle at my house. The next day, my son came over and took apart the unit. The coil was so dirty (see att.) that air wasn't flowing through it. My son cleaned the coil, put the unit back together and it's worked perfectly since. Total cost will be for the water he used and an hour of his time. Josh ******** is a criminal in my opinion. He saw me and thought he had a perfect patsy I would press charges against him if I could, but I know my only recourse is to report him and Excel Heat and Air.
