On 9/5/2024, information was provided on the the salvage bid website regarding a product available, including: estimated cash value, and bidding information. The website continued to error out on the initial bid, citing a bid was not accepted. Because of this, a membership was encouraged to be purchased to increase bid amount above the free account allotment. The account was upgraded at a cost of ******/year. The bid amount was increased to 90% of the estimated cash value, however the bid was still not accepted. After reaching out to customer service, I was informed the information provided on the website regarding the product was incorrect. The shown estimated cash value was actually the estimated repair value, the actual cash value was 3x the shown amount and there was a minimum bid 2x the shown cash value. Attempts to request a refund due to purchase made under false pretenses were unsuccessful.

    Dear BBB,
Thank you for the opportunity to discuss ****************** complaint regarding his transactions with us.

It might be helpful to know how Salvagebid, *** operates.  We are a membership service that allows members to buy vehicles via the largest automobile auctions.  In order to utilize our services someone must become a member and agree to our Terms and Conditions.  ****************** agreed to this Agreement on September 5, 2024.

We informed ****************** that information provided by the auction was inaccurate.  We offered to refund Mr.Mendozas membership at that time. However, after we informed ****************** of the auctions error, he choose to still place a bid on the vehicle.  If he is outbid on the vehicle, then the funds can be returned to him but currently he has a bid pending on the vehicle so no refunds can be made.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this matter further.

Beware: I always turn off auto renewal after I make purchases. Salvage bids website either is messed up to where it automatically changes your selection back to auto renew even if you turned it off, or they have it set to do it on purpose. Which one it is I do not know but they refuse to refund me for something that was their fault, not mine. I got charged $349 for a renewal that I did NOT consent to. Not to mention it was $199 when I actually signed up the 1st time. They want to claim that I tried to bid on something AFTER the fact...who cares? Doesn't change the fact that I did not give them permission to charge me. If ******* is charging u against your will....might as well use it right? So that's what I did. I tried to bid on one car & didn't win & that is another reason they don't want to refund me. But either way. Their policy says their memberships are "NON REFUNDABLE" no matter what anyways.

    Dear BBB,
Thank you for the opportunity to discuss the facts regarding Mr. *********** complaint regarding his purchase.

It might be helpful to know how Salvagebid, LLC operates.  We are a membership service that allows members to buy vehicles via the largest automobile auctions.  In order to utilize our services someone must become a member and agree to our Terms and Conditions.  ************************ agreed to this Agreement on April 23, 2023.

Per the terms of the Agreement, Section B4:

    4. VIP membership is a $349 USD non-refundable annual registration that allows Buyer to purchase unlimited type and number of items using Pre-Bidding and Live Auction Bidding at an auction facility in which Companys purchasing eligibility is not restricted by yard-specific registration requirements, applicable laws, and/or regulations. This registration will automatically renew each year and Buyer will be charged a non-refundable $349 USD annual renewal fee unless the subscription is canceled before the next scheduled payment. A VIP membership comes with a code for twenty (20) free ClearVin Reports.

An individual is not required to buy a membership to use our services but buying a membership allows for additional features and options.  On April 24, 2023, ************************ elected to purchase a VIP Membership from Salvagebid. At the time of his purchase, he agreed that the membership would renew automatically if not cancelled and that all transactions between the partes where subject to the Agreement.

Mr.*********** membership renewed on April 24, 2024.  ************************ then utilized his membership to bid on a vehicle through our services. ************************ then requested a refund of the membership fee.  Our customer service team reminded ************************ that he had purchased a non-refundable membership and referred him to the Agreement between the parties.

On May 30, 2024, ************************ elected to cancel his membership so that it would not renew next year.

We are sorry that ************************ is unhappy regarding his purchase of the Membership, but based on the Agreement between the parties, he purchased a non-refundable membership and used that membership to bid on vehicles.  As such, he is not entitled to a refund or other compensation.

No I am not able to provide that proof. However look at all the complaints salvage bid has with you guys. I can assure you that not only did I cancel it right away after my initial purchase but I also did not authorize them to charge me their new increased rate which was over $150 more than the original purchase price I paid.

    Dear BBB,
Thank you for the opportunity to reply to Mr. *********** rejection of our response.

As previously stated in our response, per the Agreement between the parties, memberships are non-refundable.  Note the bolded section of the language that was included in our prior response:

Mr.********** used a discount code for a discount on his initial one year registration but per the code he used, the discount was only to be applied to the first year of the membership.

I have personally reviewed his records of his membership purchase, renewal purchase, and membership cancellation. These dates are auto stamped into our records based on the date each action is taken by a member.

Our records show that Mr. *********** membership renewed on April 24, 2024.  Mr. ********** then utilized his membership to bid on a vehicle through our services. Mr. ********** then requested a refund of the membership fee.  Our customer service team reminded Mr. ********** that he had purchased a non-refundable membership and referred him to the Agreement between the parties.

On May 30, 2024, Mr. ********** elected to cancel his membership so that it would not renew next year.  This is the only record of any cancellation and it came after the renewal and use of the membership which renewed April 24, 2024.

We are sorry that Mr. ********** is unhappy regarding his purchase of the Membership, but based on the Agreement between the parties, he purchased a non-refundable membership and used that membership to bid on vehicles.  As such, he is not entitled to a refund or other compensation.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this matter further.

I am rejecting this response because:

I would like to see the businesses records proving that I did not try to cancel it earlier. As previously stated. I cancelled my membership immediately after the initial purchase & either their website was messed up or they purposely rigged them to change back to auto renew without consent. I tested this theory shortly after I found out they charged me again. I went in and cancelled my membership yet again, only to log back in & see auto renew would be back on each time  I re-checked.  If I was at fault here & forgot to cancel then I wouldnt be fighting this so hard! But this mistake, glitch or scam is on THEIR end not mine.

    Sincerely,

On 09/28/2023 i won a car at an insurance auction and decided to use Salvage Bid as a broker for the purchase. Upon paying myincoive, i noticed that i was added a $129 fee without my consent for a premium membership. When I reached out to resolve the issue, they infomred me that they needed to wire the money back. I gave them my bank wire information and they told me that it was rejected and inwould be charged a $30 fee. Now my $129 refund shrinked to $99. Again, i did not authoeize this fee int he first place. On 10/26/2023 i reached out to them telling them how wrong this whole ordeal has been and that i never authirzed this $129 fee and to please wire me back my money. I gave them my touting and account number again. On friday Novemnber the 3rd i reached out for an update. The first person that replied tp me stated that they had sent the wire on 10/30/2023. When i asked for a confirmation number (becasue my bank insisted that there was no record of a wire) someone else replied and told me that the wire was rejected again; even after the last person said it was sent on 10/30/2023. I am being given the runaround evenb though I did not authirize this $129 fee and when I tell them about it they just ignore me. Pettiness at its finest. Oh, and the car i purchsed was not as described at all but I cannot complain about that because they wash their hands with the insurance auction and do not claim responsibility for anything.

I bought a **** Jeep Grand Cherokee on 08/23/2022 for 3,423$ including all the fees that SalvageBid charges you to be able to buy a car thrlugh them their fee is around 1,000$. This is not the first car I buy through them but this time they did not send me the correct documents in order for me to transfer it to my name basically they are stilm the buyer and I cant transfer the title unde rmy name because they did Sequential Bill of Sales as the *** calls it. I went to two different ***s and they both told me the same thing that ******* requires Salvagebid to first transfer it to their name first. I contacted Salvagebid explaining my situation and they said I was in the wrong and that it is not a mistake on their part and for that I would have to pay 299$ extra in fees so they could send me the correct documents. First of all I already paid the 1,000$ fees they charge now they want to add 299$ more just because they made a mistake. They never said anything about being able to add any other fee whenever THEY make a mistake. I will not buy from them ever again and I will make sure people know the type of business they are. It is their job to send us the documents ready to be transferred into our name as that is why we are buying through them to facilitate the process not make it harder and try to s**** its clients. That is literally their only job as the third party.

I called Salvagebid and explain what happen and charged me 50 dll to notarized the document. Complaint: 18719901

I am rejecting this response because:

Salvagebid alleges that on it site the vehicle was listed as Not Actual miles, *** You only need to see the photo that I sent and you will realize  that you only see the mileage and not if it is actual or not. In the hypothetical case that they had announced it, it seems to me that they are being the mechanism for the commission of a crime. Odometer fraud is a federal crime, as is vehicle theft, what if they sell a stolen vehicle and simply put (The vehicle is stolen). It is exactly the same situation; Announcing that the vehicle is not "legal" does not remove the responsibility that they were an essential part for someone to be a victim of a crime.

Beyond the evident criminal act, it took them 3 months to send the title of the vehicle, that was no coincidence, they first analyzed what consequences there would be for the criminal act (I tried to reason with them from day one) and only when they could not take more time, they sent the title.

I honestly see it as long and tedious to find a solution to this, simply because I am experiencing legal defenselessness, I just want to set a precedent and that other people do not lose their savings with people who commit crimes and simply wash their hands.

I have placed a prebid of $5000 and I was the highest bid on the live auction at $4525. Salvage bid decided to add $200 to the highest bid and told me its because the seller counter offered and we accepted his counter offer at $4700 on your behalf without your consent. they threatened me to charge me $1250 relist fee and told me we cant help you. either you pay or we penalize you. I showed them on terms and conditions that they are wrong and made a mistake, but they just did not want to hear me. very rude very bad customer service. i am really not sure how they are allowed to stay in business.

    Dear BBB,

Thank you for the opportunity to address the issues raised by ******************* complaint to the BBB.

It might be helpful to know that Salvagebid is a membership-based online marketplace and acts as a broker to facilitate the purchase and sale of salvaged, damaged, and used vehicles through our website at Salvagebid.com (Site). Our Site contains Terms and Conditions (TAC), which all Members have to agree to in order to use our services.  ****************** agreed to these Terms and Conditions when he became a member on June 19, 2020, and again on August 29, 2022, when he accepted the updated Terms and Conditions governing this sale (the Agreement).

On *********************************** purchased a 2006 Land Rover.  In order to purchase this vehicle, Mr.******* placed a maximum bid of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000).  As provided in Section 5B of Agreement between the parties, Salvagebid will bid on your behalf, against other bidders and the sellers minimum sales price, if a minimum price is set, up to your maximum bid.  Mr. ******* was awarded the vehicle at $4700,which, consistent with the Agreement, was less than his maximum bid.  Per Section 5F of the Agreement, Once a bid or a Buy It Now has been submitted, it cannot be retracted, deleted, or canceled.

Mr.******* told our customer service team he did not plan to pay for the vehicle.  At that time, we reminded him that per the Agreement, if he did not pay for the vehicle in full that he would be charged the Relist Fees in the Agreement.  The Relist Fees are detailed in Section 5G of the Agreement.

We are sorry that Mr. ******* is unhappy with the amount he choose as his maximum bid for this vehicle, but as we have followed the terms and conditions of the Agreement, no other action is due to him in this matter.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this matter further.

    Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:

The business is not stating the true facts. I places a prebid not a bid. The highest bid was **** not ****. The business accepted a counter offer on my behalf without my consent. I have all the email trail and communication that will be posted online and sent to BBB as proof of dishonesty of the business

    Sincerely,

    Dear BBB,

Thank you for the opportunity to reply to ******************* response to the BBB.

Two Hundred Dollars ($200) was not added to Mr. ******** highest bid amount. As we previously explained, Mr. ******* placed a maximum bid of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000).  As provided in Section 5B of Agreement between the parties, Salvagebid will bid on your behalf, against other bidders and the sellers minimum sales price, if a minimum price is set,up to your maximum bid.  Mr. ******* was awarded the vehicle at $4700, which, consistent with the Agreement, was less than his maximum bid.

Mr.Gheraba consented to the Terms and Conditions under which our bidding works, and sales prices are calculated, when he became a member of our Services on June 19, 2020, and again on August 29, 2022, when he accepted the updated Terms and Conditions governing this sale (the Agreement).  Please review the original response submitted to this complaint for further information.

We are sorry that Mr. ******* is unhappy with the amount he choose as his maximum bid for this vehicle, but as we have followed the terms and conditions of the Agreement, no refund of $200 or any other amount is due to him.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this matter further.

    Sincerely,
