Contract from Dixon Contruction, **********************, Falls, PA (*************) signed and deposit of $6000.00 paid 10-21-2022. Total contract price $11,000.00. Proposal pertained to work to be done at our home. Kitchen to be demolished and new one installed according to supplied plans. Wall behind fridge knocked out. Tiled wall to be removed and new sheetrock put up. New lighting and GFI receptacles added. Sheetrock to be used for backsplash. Debris created as a result of proposed work to be removed by contractor. Contractor ignored specific plans from cabinet manufacturer (******** ********) and installed 6.5" soffit when plans showed 12" soffit. Wall tiles were removed and plastered instead of sheetrock being replaced. Owner requested soffit be replaced with 12" soffit as showed in ******** plans. Contractor instead added another 6.5" to soffit making it 13" and charged an additional $800. Contractor was asked to fix uneven plastered areas; this was not done. The job was done very poorly and completely unsatisfactorily. Owners hired another contractor ***, to remove wall cabinets and to tear down and replace soffit and also to repair walls for $6,000. Electrician, ******* Electric was hired to go over electrical work done and it was found to be improper and not to code: GFI's were installed incorrectly, had to install junction boxes and repair splices in attic, ran dedicated circuits because everything was on one circuit, took apart connections made by previous contractor and remade them to code. This was at a cost to owner of $2,750.00. Original plans given to Dixon Construction were a rough draft created by homeowner initially for the purpose of getting a bid. The plans were drawn on a program found online. The soffit measurement defaulted in 2 different numbers, 12" in one spot, 6" in the other spot. Homeowners were present every day and if we had been asked, we could have told them. They ignored professional drawings supplied by ********, present at all times.

While I am sorry that the customer is upset with how the project worked out, that was not the case when we finished the project.  We left on very good terms and the customer was happy with the work.  As to the 6.5" initial installation height, the homeowner asked from the beginning that we raised the upper cabinets higher than the plans suggested.  we agreed on a height and installed the soffit.  After that was done and an upper cabinet was displayed, the homeowner decided he did not like it and asked that we lower the cabinets. Everyone agreed on the new height and built it to that specification.  This did not sacrifice the structure of the soffit or the finished product.  It simply saved on time and materials.  The additional $800 was added because we were asked to deviate from the plans and lower the soffit height (which we did), then asked to change the soffit height afterwards.  That simply covered labor and materials for the extra work.  The backsplash was removed and the sheetrock was in good shape.  Homeowner wanted to install backsplash at a later date, so asked that we patch up what was there.  Sheetrock was spackled and sanded to homeowner's satisfaction at time of job.  The original proposal stated that contractor would add lights and one receptacle, not that contractor would rewire the entire kitchen to code.  Lights were added on circuit used for existing lights which were well within the capacity for said circuit.  We added the GFI receptacle and wired it the way GFI receptacles are designed to be installed.

We were updating the homeowner every day as to what we were doing and how we were doing it.  At the end of the project both parties were happy and there was no known problems.  As any customer of ours will attest to, we make a point of leaving a job knowing that it is done to the homeowners' standard.  We were not told of these concerns until I received this complaint.  As we always do, we would have righted any problems had they been brought to our attention.  However, they were not.  I'm sorry that the homeowner is not happy with our work, but that was not the case when we finished the project.
