Contractor was to pour cement under my new deck and replace sidewalk. This was to be done Oct 21,22 and completed on the 23. The work in preparation was done on 21 and 22 but no concrete has been poured. I was promised it would be completed today the 28 and he just called to say it wouldn't be done until Nov 1. He has damaged the front yard with his removal of the front sidewalk and claims he is not responsible to repair it and that it is up to me to do that. I'm 81 years old. He claimed that you have to pay for a minimum order of concrete which is why we added the sidewalk to the project and he assured me that the price he quoted would not be increased. He quoted $5400. and now claims we owe $6000. There was no formal contract just the original bid slip which I have. In the meantime I have been left with an unsightly and unsafe situation to access my front door. He has been unprofessional and verbally abusive. I would like to fire him and get someone else to complete the work but I don't know how the financial situation could be resolved.

The daughter and I had a conversation when she gave me the job that I could come and at least get it ready for a pour. She also changed the scope of work. She wanted to pour under her steps. I told her it would be approximately an additional 500.00. We started the job on October 21. When we arrived after the deck was built by another contractor, I told her your not gaining any more useable area under the steps. We were hired to do a driveway spot under the deck and her front sidewalk. Her front porch was slanting towards her house, so water was going towards her house and maybe causing foundation issues. I said to her that you should put the money into your front porch for the same money. The concrete underneath the stairs were unusable. Apparently she thought it was for the original bid. I told her that the additional concrete would be 500.00. That’s what I meant for the same money. We completed the dig and forming in two days. We scheduled a concrete truck and a power buggy. The truck broke down on the way to her job. I refused the concrete. We rescheduled and poured her job as soon as I could get a concrete truck scheduled, which was one week. It was the end of October and everyone was scheduling trucks because it was the end of the season for residential work. I got the first available truck and for the concrete company I like to use. I pay more money for a reputable concrete company. I could have bought elsewhere cheaper and made more money. I give a quality job!
