I went into Jim Jenkins Lawn and Garden Center to purchase a tree. They tried to refuse to sell me a tree that they said was “sold” but then my delivery driver that I brought with me, who Jim didn’t know that he was with me, he asked Jim if it was available and Jim told the driver that it was if he could take it right then. So, the driver came and got me and told me and I went in and purchased the tree and after the transaction went through, Jim started saying bad things about my husband and myself in front of everyone in the store. Once the guys were loading up the tree into the truck, Jim went inside and walked back out about 10 minutes later and gave me a refund slip and told me he wasn’t selling the tree to me anymore because it’s worth more money than he sold it to me for. He refunded my money with out my permission or knowledge and without authorization to make any kind of transaction with my credit card. I think I was treated extremely unfairly. Thank you.

***** only tells part of the story in her complaint.

The interaction with ***** began in early April. Her and her husband come to the garden Center and asked how much to deliver?  They were told $40.00 (which was our delivery charge for most items in the local area).  They then went to the shade tree section and picked out one of the largest trees that we have which was a 3 inch  caliper Balled and Burlapped ornamental Pear with a large machine dug ball.  They were told that the deliver fee would be more than $40.00 because it would involve several people, a truck and trailer etc. ***** didn’t like that answer and said they were going to Trax Farms as it was closer to their house anyways.

Later that day, she returned and wanted to purchase the tree after all and pleaded with me to deliver it for $40.00. She said her hubby would have the hole dug and all we had to do was “drop it in the hole”. It was a few days before Easter, and I decided to do it for $40.00.  On EASTER SUNDAY, myself and 2 employees loaded the tree on a trailer and delivered it to their house on ******** ***** in ****** ****.  Hubby didn’t have a big enough hole dug, his old shovel handle had cracked,  and he looked like he didn’t know what to do. I got tools out of our truck, dug the hole bigger, we planted the tree and backfilled it with a little help from Hubby. ***** stood on the porch watching.  We did all of that for $40.00!!!

Fast forward to May 2, 2022. ***** comes into the Garden Center and looks at a very large Pink Dogwood ($399.00 retail) that had been marked sold but had not left since the customer wasn’t sure how they were going to handle it to plant it etc.  ***** pleaded with a salesperson to buy it, and I said OK over the radio. ***** then wanted it delivered and put in her back yard for $40.00 like the last tree!  Lisa (the manager) said absolutely not that the delivery would be $200.00 because of what is involved. ***** left and I thought it was over with.

A few hours later a man comes into the store and starts a conversation with me like we are long lost friends from ****** ****. He mentioned several people that I am friends with and said he thought he went to High School with me. He then said that there was a tree that he wanted to buy outside and he had a box truck to haul it in. He said he would need help backing out because he isn’t real good driving this truck. I was busy and said we could help him back out. He then said that the tree was a big pink Dogwood !  I was surprised and I told him that there had been a lot of drama about that tree as recently as this morning!   WITHOUT EVER MENTIONING ANY NAMES I told him that a lady had wanted it delivered for $40.00 because I had done her a favor on Easter and delivered and planted a tree for her for $40.00 which had probably cost me $150.00 or more to do.

I rang up the tree on the register and ***** who had been hiding around the corner stepped up with her credit card to buy the tree! She said” I am the lady that you are talking about”.  I told her that I had not said anything to the guy that wasn’t the truth.  As we walked over to dig out the tree, she kept talking to me about what I said. I told her again I didn’t say anything that wasn’t the truth and that the original delivery had cost me a lot to do her a favor. She had a smug remark and I continued to the tree.

I ( NOT my guys) dug the tree out of the mulch and as we were putting new burlap on the ball, ***** was standing there glaring at me and typing away on her cell phone. At that point, I went into  the store and did a refund of the sale back to her credit card and walked out and gave her a  refund receipt and told her I was not selling the tree to her.

The tree was not being loaded on the truck as she states, it hadn’t been moved but 3 or 4 feet from where it was and the reburlapping wasn’t finished.  As far as talking about her and her husband after she paid for the tree, that is untrue as well. It was before she popped around the corner with her charge card. AND I never said any names. I do not need authorization to give someone their money back, it is very simple to do in our P.O.S. system.

Since this incident, ***** has blasted me on every social media site she can find in the area, some sites have refused to post her nonsense. And all the posts conveniently only tell half of the story and are full of lies.  She posted on Angies List and I posted the same response as here.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Absolutely nothing he said was true, he is an incredibly horrible person and not to mention a liar about everything he mentioned in his statement. This is very frustrating because he is making me and my husband out to be some lazy and terrible people whenever he is the compulsive liar. I hate to even see this person have any type of business at all.

    Regards,
