I paid $14 for 2 hours of parking and not until I returned did I notice that I enter a W in lieu of a V as one digit in the license plate. As a result I was fined $50. My appeal was immediately denied. They refused to delete the fine nor would they void the incorrect transaction, resulting in a double payment. The original payment was made to Palmetto Parking however the fine was made by Coastal Parking. The relationship between these businesses is not clear so I have also filed a complaint against Coastal Parking. The fine print in the app was not easy to read and the company did not suffer any loss as I originally paid the correct amount. Regardless, this is unfair business practice and egregious and easy to remedy.

    Hello

The city of Charleston reached out to the business on my behalf.  The business has reconsidered and they are refunding the citation.  This is now resolved and you can close this complaint.  Thank you.

Palmetto Parking 200 Meeting Street Place (843) 805-7774 Receipt #**** May 7, 2023 We paid $6.00 on this receipt. Later we saw a withdrawal on our bank account for $45.00 more. We have had no luck contacting the company to dispute this extra charge.

This parking lot and their partner with coastal parking management, which is the immobilization service is a scam. You go to the parking lot, if you follow the instructions posted and load their app, make a payment, and it makes it look like you have completed your parking transaction. Then a few minutes later after you’ve left the parking lot and when you’re not looking at your phone, it sent you a notice saying that your payment did not go through. Then within just a few minutes, a service shows up and puts a boot on your car so that your eight dollar parking fee changes to 50. This happened to me and another couple both eating at the same restaurant in the same location on King Street. It is a terrible practice.

Palmetto Parking supposedly notifies you via text when your parking pass is due to expire. I had used their lot with no issue for approximately 5 days, receiving appropriate notifications. On my last day, I did not receive a notification so I was booted. The failure to notify seemed like a deliberate miss to generate extra income from booting.

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/03/03) */ We utilize a company, XPressPark, to handle payment via text at our properties. We discovered their entire system went down the morning of 2/25/22. As soon as we found out, we contacted XPressPark to alert them and also to gauge how long their service would be down. While we were speaking with XPressPark, another member of our management team alerted the enforcement company we utilize, Coastal Parking Management, to let them know XPressPark was down and to cease enforcement at any of our locations that used XPressPark. We also asked Coastal Parking Management if they would take off any boots that had been placed that morning for non-payment in our lots that used XPressPark. It was my understanding that Coastal Parking Management did that. This person may want to reach out to Coastal Parking Management if they paid for the boot fee.
