I purchased some furniture from this store in June of 2022. About a month ago my wife had swollen marks on her back that itched and turned red. she first thought it was a allergic reaction to detergents or something. we switched detergents, but she kept getting these marks on her. she finally went to the doctor and received some cream to put on them and was set to make a appointment with a dermatologist. We were still trying to figure out what it was, so she researched what it could be with marks like hers. she found it might be bed bugs. we searched the house and found that the couch we bought from Kimbrell's was infested with bed bugs. i went to the store and talked to the manager. I was told she could not do anything. i told her she could pick the furniture up, she said she could not pick it up. i said i was not going to pay for it and was told it would go on my credit. this is not a fair situation. why should we pay for something we can't use? i just want it picked up and not put on my credit. I could not get it to keep the Spartanburg store up. The address is *** ******* Dr. Spartanburg S.C. 29303

    Response to BBB Complaint #********

    Our response:

Thank you for allowing us an opportunity to respond to Complaint #********

This customer came into our Spartanburg location on 11/21/2022 stating he had bed bugs and needed the furniture replaced. Manager informed customer that unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done because Kimbrells could not except merchandise back into the store that was believed to be infested with Bed Bugs.  At that point, customer mentioned that he would no-longer pay for the merchandise.  Manager responded by saying that should the account go past due; collection activities would continue.  There was never any mention of customer’s credit during this verbal exchange either by Management at the store or from the customer.

    Other Points of Reference:

    ·         Customer’s original purchase and pick up date was June 24th, 2022

    ·         Customer made an additional purchase on 8/10/2022 (I month and a half later) of the matching recliner.  While conducting this transaction, he never mentioned any problems with sofa purchased previously.

    ·         After hearing from customer in this complaint, management did a visual check of all inventory in that location.  There was no visual indication of any problems with merchandise that may have been around or come in at the same time as the furniture in question.

    ·         Management solicited feedback from personnel at the location that would uncover any communication from other customers experiencing a similar problem. There was none.

    Conclusion:

Kimbrells takes pride in the maintaining our facilities and merchandise at the highest levels with routine cleaning and professional services against pest and rodent infestations.  Based on our findings from this inquiry, there will be no further action taken on this matter.
