Date of Transaction: Saturday, May 6, 2023 The amount of money you paid the business: I authorized payment of $260.73 to the business but the business charged my debit card $271.72. I did not authorize a payment of $271.72. What the business committed to provide to you. The business committed to providing entrees, drinks, and dessert for a party of 6 (4 adults & 2 children). What is the nature of the dispute? I am disputing the 20% gratuity added to my bill by the restaurant sever and manager. I only authorized a 15% gratuity. The total of the bill before added gratuity was $227.76. The total of the bill with a 15% gratuity added is $260.73. The restaurant charged my debit card $271.72 instead of $260.73. Has the business tried to resolve the problem? The business has not tried to resolve the problem. While I was at the restaurant and before providing my debit card for payment, I asked the server why he added a 20% gratuity. He responded, the computer automatically adds the 20% gratuity for parties of 6 or more. I asked him if he could change the amount of the gratuity and he said he could not because the computer automatically does it. I asked him if he could override the computer and he said he could not do it. Therefore, I asked to speak to his manager. The manager repeated the information the server provided but added that the menu states gratuity is added for parties of 6 or more and most restaurant charge 20% gratuity. I asked her to show me on the menu and she did and I pointed out to her that the menu does not state a gratuity rate. I asked her to change the rate from 20% to 15% and she refused. I told her I would not authorize the 20% gratuity because the menu did not state specifically the rate of gratuity and the discussion ended. I completed my receipt showing a 15% gratuity and left the restaurant. However, the restaurant charged the 20% gratuity anyways without my consent.
