I needed an antique pine blanket chest refinished and was given an address of a place of business where I was to meet owners. I instead was met by 2 women in wooded area w chained gate. I assume their home/business was behind gate but they never took me to it so I could see what this workplace was. I spoke about my project, different shades of green stain, flat finish with no sheen, and most importantly, leaving dovetailing in its natural state, color not to be touched or colored over. They agreed they could achieve what I was looking for and they would make a sample on old pine pieces they already had and would have ready for me when I brought chest 2 days later. I was to see the sample and they would tweak whatever needed until it was correct. It all sounded legitimate, thought maybe they worked from their home so I brought chest 2 days later and they did not have a sample as promised. Said they didn't have time but would have it in 2 days. Still no sample. Was promised 4 different times after that and still no sample. I started to feel uncomfortable so I asked to pick up chest until they could have sample. My husband picked up chest and chest was finished and they insisted the chest was the sample and wanted $500. Finish coat was not what we agreed on and dovetailing was painted over. Very upset and still offered to pay in middle since they made no approved sample and they will not release my chest. Going back and forth over a week now. I offered $300 to get my chest back and have refinished elsewhere to what we originally agreed upon and they refuse. Feel cheated and taken advantage of as they never did anything we agreed upon and finished my chest without ever showing me a sample they promised 4 different times. All communication was verbal and through texting,.no email for this business. I am willing to pay $300 for something that was not finished to what we all agreed upon and they won't budge. Feel this is more than fair on my part. Please help. Thank you.

Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2022/05/31) */ We understand there was a miscommunication and are willing to work with you to make sure you are happy. You mentioned the colors of your preferred finish on the chest were spot on and we agree. We will be happy to set a time that works for your furniture pick up. We can accept $400 as a compromise from the originally agreed upon price as the sheen is not as flat as you would have liked, or we can apply a clear coat of flat finish to address your desire for the flat finish at no additional cost from the agreed upon $500 price. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you through the BBB, we appreciate your desire to work out any misunderstandings as we have an A+ rating with the BBB and have been in business meeting clients by appointment only for over 16 years! Looking forward to working with you. Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2022/06/01) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) After several attempts to address the most important detail of the refinishing project, covering the authentic dark dovetailing which was to be left untouched, I have not gotten a response to that. The partners said they are compensating $100 for applying the wrong sheen finish and I have asked several times about the compensation for the dovetailing. I am willing to meet in the middle of the original price of $500 and have offered them $300 in hopes they would release the chest back to me. I would willing pay $300 total and not have them do anything further to my chest as the verbal communication has become extremely uncomfortable and I do not want to deal with anymore miscommunication in trying to fix what's been done. I am willing to pick up the chest at no more than $300, which I feel is more than fair and more than meeting in the middle, asap. Thank you. Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2022/06/02) */ We are happy to set an appointment for your furniture pick up. We are willing to accept $350 cash. Let us know what time works for your schedule. Thank you. Consumer Response /* (2000, 15, 2022/06/02) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) Daniel, Please contact the company and tell them I accept the $350 and my husband can pick up the chest tomorrow morning Friday June 3, at 10 am. and will bring cash. Thank you.
