On August 1, 2024, my nephew and I took my father to the Waccamaw Community Hospital emergency room because he was vomiting blood. This was very early in the morning. The check in nurse asked him a few questions and checked his vitals. After that she wheeled my father in room # 2 in the emergency room. A few minutes later my father went into shock because he was losing blood. I called one of the nurses into the room. Two nurses came into my father's room and took him to another room. I stood outside room #3 and I saw one of the nurses insert an iv needle into his arm. There were a few ER staff members in the room with my father. One of the ** staff members put his hand over my father's mouth. I noticed that father's mouth was open. I saw one of the staff members taking his dentures out of his mouth. A few minutes later one of the male staff handed me one part of my father's dentures. He went back into the room and came back out with the other part of his dentures. I told him the dentures are broken. He offered me a plastic orange cup to place the dentures in. Later that day my father was transferred to another hospital for interventional radiology. I reached out to the ***************************** I emailed Ms. ***** ******** about this matter. She let me know she would look into the matter. The last email I received from her was on August 27, 2024, she said was waiting for the nurse's feedback. I reached out to Ms. ***** ******** how long the investigation was going to take. I haven't heard from her. In her email August 27, 2024, Ms. ******** said something that left me concerned. She wanted to know if I had any further information as to how my father dentures broke when I already explained to her what happened. She asked me if my father was wearing broken dentures. I started over thinking is she trying to protect the hospital. I'm requesting that Waccamaw Community Hospital to do the right thing and reimburse my father for his bottom dentures.

Even though the patient was not identified within this complaint, we are assuming that ***** ******** knows who this patient is.  Since we cannot affirm or deny that the dentures were broken while the patient was  in the care of Waccmaw Community Hospital, we will in good faith, reimburse for the cost of the bottom denture replacement or repair based upon pricing from ****** ************** which is our usual basis for determination of reimbursement.  ***** ******** will reach out to Ms ****** with more information.

Hope this message finds you well.  I would like to provide an update on my complaint. On September 25, 2024, Ms. ***** ********, the patient relations liaison, emailed me regarding reimbursement for my father's dentures.

The choice presented to my father is that Waccamaw Hospital will provide reimbursement if he utilizes the dental services of their recommended facility, ************************** in ********, **. . Alternatively, he may select a different dental facility, provided that the expenses do not exceed the pricing of ****** *************.

I informed Ms. ******** that I will refrain from making any commitments until I have completed my research.

After researching ****** Dental Facility, my father and I have decided that we are not comfortable visiting that clinic.  In my research, I have come across numerous negative reviews of the clinic on Yelp , and Google.

My father and I understand that Waccamaw Hospital is opting for a less costly approach by referring him to a dental facility known for substandard work.

On September 26, 2024, my father and I went to the dental office where he bought his dentures. During that visit, I discovered that my father had spent well beyond the price range of ****** ************* in the year 2014. I also inquired with the administrative assistant about ****** Dental Facility, her immediate advice was to avoid seeking dental procedures there.

Following my visit to the dental office, I replied to Ms. ********** email stating that my father and I disagree with the proposed option. My father deserves an appropriate compensation for his dentures. Moreover, he is facing inconvenience due to being limited to eating certain foods.
