I retained **** ***** as my divorce attorney in 2019. I hired *** ***** after leaving my first attorney that originally filed my divorce. In 2020 after my divorce, the Blount County Clerk and Master's Office told me they sent ******* of my filing fees to ********* did NOT use this firm to file my divorce with originally. *** *****'s paralegal knew or should have known this. I received a letter from the Blount County Clerk and Master's Office in August 2023 requesting I come to their office to pick up these funds. They stated they had sent same letter to ****** ******* *** **** and were advised by their office to send to them. I called their office. I spoke with the paralegal. She was always very rude and unprofessional to me. Always! She stated she had mailed it to my home. She mailed it to a previous address assuming that is where I live not before she argued that the monies belonged to *** *****. I let her know that *** ***** was not the one that filed my divorce but my previous attorney. And that both attorneys had been paid in full. She said she would check with him. I called him. He said he had told her the same. The Clerk and Master's Office said they are unable to stop payment on checks issued and to wait 90 days to see if check was returned. I called this day to check and was told it had not been. I was told to call *** *****'s office as well. Again. I'm met with the paralegal who basically tells me and the Clerk and Master's Office it's just too bad because they called her as well. The paralegal from the beginning knew or should have known or asked *** ***** dating back to 2020 that the ******* was to immediately come back to me. And now if no one returns the check from my old address, it will be at least one year and possibly two years that I may or may not receive my monies back due to the negligence of *** *****'s paralegal. I feel that they should have to reimburse me since it should have been returned to me in 2020.

    Customer response

    11/18/2023

I found out from Blount County Clerk and Master's Office they sent my check to her originally in 2020 and ***** ******* *** **** paralegal did not give it to me even then. This time in 2023 they sent a letter to me and to ***** ******* *** **** in reference to the check again. Their paralegal called them before I could and she requested MY monies be mailed to them.
