My daughter was admitted to TrustPoint Behavorial Health. As a RN for 23 years, I have never seen such horrible care with no regard to patient rights or showing any type of positive emotion to aid in the healing process. If you're looking for a positive sincere environment for behavioral diagnosis, do not choose this facility. The staff are rude and unprofessional. My daughter is disabled with a rare disease with absence of the septum pellucidum and hypoplastic optic chiasm. She is legally blind, has a cognitive impairment, and is deaf in her left ear. She has an under active pituitary gland with little hormone production. She takes DDAVP due to Diabetes Insipidus. Without this medication her sodium and potassium levels quickly change, causing critical abnormal levels. I was denied the ability to talk to my daughter outside of the phone hours of 8-10am and 8-10pm. I told the receptionist I sent a copy of POA paperwork, MRI, and medical history. She could not find any of the information I sent. I spoke with the social worker and was told my daughter had been taken off a medication she has taken for years, her doses were not titrated down it was completely stopped. My daughter was now having withdrawal symptoms that included horrible nightmares. They gave her a medication that causes her to have episodes side of catatonia (documented in her medical records). They missed her am dose of DDAVP. Her medical records were never requested. I asked to speak to the physician, and I was told the physician doesn't speak to patient family members on a regular basis. I explained my daughter is disabled and there was no way she was understanding or processing any information given to her. My daughter was denied basic health care rights that she is legally entitled to and is a victim of disability discrimination. I truly hope no one else has to experience this type of poor unacceptable healthcare, with disregard to those that have disabilities and are to be protected by ADA.

If I could give a negative star rating, this facility would receive it! I’ve spent 40 years in the healthcare industry working in nursing facilities, rehab facilities and hospitals of all sorts and sizes and this is by far the worst I’ve ever encountered, either as a patient or employee. From the lack of professionalism and general knowledge shown by administrative staff to lack of response and knowledge shown by caregivers at all levels, my stay there was a disaster. And when it came time for discharge I was given a specific time for discharge and transport home and after a myriad of problems was finally given a time of seven hours past the original schedule. Meanwhile I was made to wait in my room without benefit of medication, food or any other service while waiting for the scheduled transport. I finally arranged my own transport and as I was leaving they were fussing at me about liability issues and trying to prevent me from leaving. I was finally able to escape from this prison and make my way home but I left with extremely negative feelings about the facility and staff at all levels. Truly a joke calling it a “rehab hospital” and I would recommend avoiding it at all costs unless you have a death wish!

    Trustpoint Hospital Response

    02/21/2023

Thank you for expressing your concerns and frustration with Trustpoint Hospital. We have an excellent group of caregivers, nurses, doctors, and techs on our REHAB unit and I am sorry that you were disappointed. When it comes to discharge if the family or patients change original discharge plans, new transportation may arrive after the original planned discharge time. We always offer food at all meal times to all of the patients including discharge patients and snacks/drinks as needed round the clock. We take all comments and concerns seriously and use feedback to improve care and processes. If you need further clarification on your specific concerns, please reach out to our quality department at: 615-848-5857.
