They are a butcher shop and have very opaque billing practices with an un-helpful custmer service team that just reads off of scripts and keeps repeating the same thing over and over with no resolutions. I went in to a chipped tooth a year ago, they told me i needed an emergency root canal and crown charging me about $2500. When i went back for my 6 month routine check up they told me i need another 3 root canals and crowns and tried to charge me an additonal 10K which almost gave me a heart attack. I went to get a second opinion and it turns out i didnt need ANY root canals. A month ago, almost a year after my initial root canal/crown I got a bill for an additional $1300. After a few unhelpful emails back and forth, with Tend telling me something different each time about why I'm being charged this extra bill, their only answer was that "you paid a quote, its a quote, we are able to charge you again." Like what kind of answer is that ?? After I spoke with my insurance company it turns out that the dentist I saw who did my root canal was out of network which I was not informed about. When I called Tend back they told me this was my fault they I used a doctor out of net work even tho Tend was the one who assigned me the doctor. All they have done so far is deflect and try to blame me for their errors and only give me very vague answers. Do not use them, again they are a butcher shop, tried to push 3 additonal root canals onto me. They claim that they are able to suprise charge you whenever they want even if its over a year later as everything is a quote. Whats to stop them from conitinuing to "quote" me forever and keep charging me .Tend Dental, Inc. Response

I paid out of pocket for services and paid 100% of my bill at the time of service. Almost six months later, I received a bill informing me I owed $70 — very sketchy. I did not pay this bill, as it seemed like a mistake. In November I received another bill telling me I owed $70. I called Tend billing and they said this was a mistake, I owe nothing, and to ignore it. I wonder how many people pay the bill without thinking twice. Hopefully, it's an honest mistake, but it seems pretty darn sketchy to me! If you send customers false bills, you should contact them to inform them of the error, not wait for them to contact you. The bill amount seems just small enough that many people would just pay it without thinking twice. The dental services I received from Tend were very good, I have to say. 5 stars for dental work, 0 stars for billing.Tend Dental, Inc. Response

I previously had what I thought were positive visits to Tend in the West Village, but after my visit today will not be using Tend again. During my first two visits to Tend (9/16/2023, 3/29/2024) I saw the same dentist and he did not flag any areas of concern or developing cavities. I saw a new dentist at the same practice today who flagged 7 needed fillings and 2 areas of developing concern that the previous dentist had never discussed in previous visits or flagged in my chart. Tend might seem alluring with their strong marketing practices and overall brand strategy, but I would warn against them for their dentistry.Tend Dental, Inc. Response

All my other dentists have covered 100% of my services (xray, cleanings, etc), yet somehow Tend has finagled their billing codes so that I owe money. Not only that but I just received a bill TWO YEARS after my service date. Absolutely insane and horrific business practices. I wish I could give zero stars - 1 is too many.Tend Dental, Inc. Response

I used Tend for orthodontic treatment -- to disastrous results. They sold me on their Breezy Braces system to straighten my teeth and correct some minor bite issues. I was put on a treatment plan with ********************* which lasted ~1.5 years.3 weeks after I had the Breezy Braces removed, my front left tooth started experiencing extreme pain and turned grey and discolored. I consulted a dentist outside of Tend and they informed me that my orthodontic treatment had resulted in a traumatic occlusion. My lower teeth were hitting my front tooth and the repeated force had caused my tooth to die.I needed a root canal, internal bleaching, and am facing an additional year of orthodontic treatment to correct the damage Tend did to my teeth. On top of that, when I requested a refund for the treatment, they took nearly a month to resolve in spite of my providing detailed documentation of the damages they caused (verified by three separate dental professionals). I have only been issued a partial refund to date and they are refusing to cover any of the additional costs that I incurred for the root canal.Tend is a perfect example of dentistry without accountability. Their dental professionals do not have to build up a client base and as a result, any mistakes they make can be swept under the rug.Tend Dental, Inc. Response

This is not specific to the *** location -- this is towards Tend Dental as a whole. I lost my mouth guard (it's transparent, what I can I say?) and wanted a replacement. I orginally went to the *** location to make the guard, but went to the Rockefellar location as part of an emergency visit. My biggest complaint is how impossible it is to speak with the staff at a specific location--you have to call its service hotline to do anything. The Rockefellar staff said they did not have my original scan as it stays with the original provider. Fine, can you call the *** location to see if the scan is still there and if they can help me? No. Instead they tried to push me get a whole new scan at the ****************** with another dentist (who seemed fresh out of dental school), and when I declined, they had their Member Experience Specialist (***) call me. The *** would not contact the *** office--I had to schedule another appointment for a call-back. THAT IS A SCHEMY WAY TO TRY TO BILL ME AGAIN for a simple "Do you have my protected health information on hand?" The *** dentist called me back (at a different time than scheduled btw) and said he will have his office staff call me back. That was 9/7. By 9/19, still no call so I followed up by email. Then "*******" (a ***) wrote that indeed ******************** called me but they cannot reach out to my "other provider"--"you would need to provide that to us. We would need to take a new scan to send to the lab." First, ******** has the scan. Second, how the h*** do I provide anything to you when it's secured within YOUR system? Third, the *** at Tend are quite horrible to speak with at times--rude, incompentent/unwilling to help, dismissive. In essense, the Tend's *** are so out-of-touch with what's happening on the ground with the patients and providers. Customers have to hurdle through so much bureaucracy to get anything done. As a healthcare provider myself, this is unacceptable. You are barring me from my HPI.Tend Dental, Inc. Response

They are lying to patients upfront about the cost of procedures. There are several reviews saying this all over the internet. If youd like details on my own personal experience, here you go: I was quoted incorrectly for a $4,000 procedure on Sept 4th 2021 and repeatedly told incorrect information from day 1 when I started my journey with Tend a year ago. Including a printed sheet with misleading information (several online reviews stating this is a common theme) about what is covered and what is not covered and highly incorrect quotes on what the procedure costs and what to expect back from my insurance company. The actual experience with Tend was a nightmare. The surgeon and dentists were great, but for a time sensitive multi-step procedure I was told I had to rescheduled in January with no attempt to reschedule me resulting in having to wait 4 additional months to finish a very time sensitive procedure resulting in my teeth shifting. Meaning the incompetence of the front desk staff literally impact my smile. It gets worse there was absolutely no post procedure instruction after an extraction and implant procedure resulting in my husband not knowing there were pain meds to pick up or that I was supposed to take them RIGHT AFTER the procedure. I explain that day as the worst pain I have ever experienced IN MY LIFE and only because of the negligence by their team not communicating any post op instruction about pain meds.Lastly. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED ONE CENT BACK ON ANY OF THE PROCEDURES ON SEPT 4th 2021!?!? I hope this review protects someone else from being taken advantage of by this horrendous business.Tend Dental, Inc. Response
