Important information
- Advertising Review:
BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising. These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints and competitor challenges. BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.
On May 10, 2024, BBB contacted Freedom Solar Power regarding advertised claims on their website https://freedomsolarpower.com.
Freedom Solar Power advertised they offer warranties on specific products that they offer. BBB Code of Advertising states when using the term “warranty” or “guarantee” in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty can be seen prior to the sale, at the advertiser’s location, viewed on the advertiser’s website or, in the case of mail or telephone order sales, made available free on written request.
Freedom Solar Power modified their website to include the warranty details in respect to the specific company on their website.
Freedom Solar Power also advertised environmental benefit claims using terms including green, and eco-friendly. BBB Code of Advertising states advertisers should not make broad, unqualified general environmental benefit claims like “green” or “eco-friendly.” Advertisers must qualify general claims with specific environmental benefits alongside possess competent and reliable evidence (often scientific) to support all environmental benefit claims. Freedom Solar Power discontinued the environmental benefit claims.
Freedom Solar Power also advertised satisfaction guaranteed claims. BBB Code of Advertising states advertisers should only use “satisfaction guarantee,” “money back guarantee,” “free trial offer,” or similar representations in advertising if the seller or manufacturer refunds the full purchase price of the advertised product or service at the consumer’s request. Freedom Solar Power discontinued advertising satisfaction guarantee claims.
Freedom Solar Power advertises costs of solar panels. BBB requested Freedom Solar Power to substantiate the claims advertised on their website. Freedom Solar Power substantiated the advertisement by providing BBB with data regarding out of pocket solar cost of solar.
Freedom Solar Power advertised consumer could “Completely Eliminate Monthly Electricity Bills.” BBB requested Freedom Solar Power to modify their website to clarify the advertisement as consumers would still receive an electricity bill. Freedom Solar Power discontinued the advertisement.
