A friend recommended ***********************, the owner to build a retaining wall. He gave ***** my number and he called me. He came to my house on 1/6/24. I asked for the wall to be built from limestone and he agreed. He emailed a quote for $12050. $2500 due up front and rest upon completion. My original retaining wall was wooden and needed to be replaced. When he began he started by bringing a variety of all types of rocks and insisted the limestone would be too expensive and that he would make it look good. I hesitantly agreed. He found out that my husband passed away 11/8/23 and began pressuring me for more jobs before completing this one. I did have him clear some trees. He kept asking for more money over and over. He said to me more than once, "I am just trying to make more money off of you." "I really want $5000 to buy a bobcat (equipment)." Who tells a recent widow they are trying to take advantage of her and make money off of her? He consistently said that he needed money to pay his workers or get more cement. Once he told me he needed gas money to get home. Every time I gave him money he would disappear for days to weeks and I had to text/call repeatedly to get him to come back to work. I even used the mutual friend to call him to get him to come back. The wall is separated in two parts by stairs. The first half of the wall he worked diligently on. It was the second half. He gave me several finishing dates and did not meet any of them. However, the biggest complaint is that this rock and cement retaining wall is now cracked with a huge gap in it. I sent him pictures of the gap. I believe it is because he rushed to finish that side of the wall and did not put in any drains like the other side. The wall was 2 months old when I contacted him about the damage. He finished in March of 2024. He will not return any calls or texts asking him to fix it or refund a portion of my money so that I can pay someone else to fix it. Also he only accepted cash.
