On my grandfather's behalf, I believe he was charged with a false Monticello Vault that till this day is not needed. Back in April of 2021, my grandfather asked me to help him look into his and my grandmother's funeral account to be sure everything had been paid for. Back in ****, my grandmother had arranged everything for both of their funeral expenses. In about 2011 she was diagnosed with Dementia. By 2021, she could no longer advocate for herself and needed hour around care. When going to the cemetery to question my grandparents account, staff mentioned to us that all had been paid for except a Monticello Vault. We were explained that recently a law had passes that if one had a double burial plot that the first burial to go in the ground now needed a sturdier outer burial container- a Monticello Vault. At this time, the cemetery staff helping had both my grandparents contracts to view. He never once mentioned the concrete liners my grandparents already had paid for that could potentially be upgraded later after death. We were unaware ourselves at the time of any potential upgrades as this was not something we did for a living. My grandfather paid $1395.00 for this vault needed in April of 2021. In September 2022, my grandmother deceased due to battling dementia. While services were being set, funeral staff explained that because my grandmother had a concrete liner paid, a $300 upgrade could be made to have the Monticello vault needed. We questioned the vault purchased in 2021, we later found out that the vault was purchased under my grandfather's name and could not be used for my grandmother. I was later made aware that my grandfather now had a concrete liner and vault both purchased for himself. When I spoke to staff about receiving full refund for something that he never needed, staff attempted to have my grandfather sign a blank refund application. When I requested that the full amount be added before signing, staff then became hard to get in contact with.
