5/1/2024 I requested that the company reimburse me for the amount charged for a service that was never rendered. I filed a complaint with my bank and they reversed the charge back to my account due to the company supposedly providing them documentation but yet they never supplied me with anything.

I was pressured into signing up for services at my home by a solicitor who came to my home in the middle of my work day. The person had an IPad but no paper documents. The person told me that I had to have the initial service performed that day. I asked that it be done a few hours later because I was working and someone being on the property would set my dogs off and disrupt my work. First they told me it could be done two hours later. Then not even 30 minutes later the person showed up to do the work. I was annoyed by this but allowed them to continue. I was charged $129.00 for the initial service. That was paid immediately. The service was to reoccur every other month. A week or so later, well before the next service was to occur I decided that every other month was too frequent and the cost of the service was too high for the work being performed. I emailed Romex to cancel. In response I was told that there was a $250.00 cancellation fee. That is outrageous and abusive considering only 1 service was performed and it had been paid for in full. After that I continued to receive emails from Romex even though I told them to stop contacting me. Today, I received two emails from Romex, one which contained a receipt for payment of the $250.00 cancellation fee that I am disputing. The other email stated here is the document you requested. I did not request any document. This type of bullying consumers into contracts for services that are not worthwhile by unsolicited door to door salespeople needs to stop. Romex should reimburse me for the unearned $250 cancellation charge.

We have a signed agreement as well as a signed welcome letter on file, which was initialed that highlighted everything. If you would like to discuss this further, please call our office.

I am rejecting this response because:  Romex has been unjustly enriched by charging $250 cancellation fee for performing only 1 service that was paid for in full. There is no harm to Romex in simply allowing the contract to be canceled under the circumstances and waiving the cancellation fee. The cancellation fee should be deemed unenforceable and unconscionable. I have contacted Romex already and they offered no solution aside from paying the $250 fee.

We have a signed agreement and welcome letter on file with your initials acknowledging the entirety of the service as well as all potential fees. Please call our office if you would like to discuss this further.

I am rejecting this response because:  it is not satisfactory. I do not want to be offered additional services by this company which is all that they will do if I call. The cancellation fee is unfair to me as a consumer. The cancellation fee of $250.00 results in an unjust enrichment to the company and is a harmful practice that disadvantages consumers.

We will refund the early termination fee as a courtesy to you.

I have reviewed the business response and accept the proposed resolution of having me contact them to discuss. Since II want nothing further to do with this business or its billing practices and marketing tactics, I do not plan to discuss further with the business.

I contracted with ROMEX Pest Control for services on 4/15/23. In July ROMEX offered me a free termite inspection which I accepted. Their employee performed the inspection on 7/18/23 and found one termite. I asked how this would be treated and he said he would install termite traps around my home for $520 and they would come and inspect them every six months and add treatment as needed. He never mentioned monthly charges so I assumed there might be a nominal fee to recharge the traps. When I got my monthly statement there was a second invoice for $53 so I called the office and spoke to the manager who said the second invoice was a monthly invoice for termite services. I told him I had never been told about monthly payments for termite service and that I thought the money I had already paid was going to cover termite treatment. He said it was clearly referenced on the contract which is most certainly not the case. Since the only thing I had received was trap installation, I told him I was not interested in further termite services from them and refused to pay monthly charges. He said I would have to pay $250 termination fee which he immediately charged to my credit card. I gave them my credit card information so they could receive payment for my regular pest control service. I disputed the $250 charge and the $53 charge for termite treatment with Capital One and they are currently researching the issue. For now they have credited my account for the charges but they asked me to contact the company to try to resolve it. I have done so and the manager refused to discuss it further and even charged the dispute fee to my credit card. I have contacted the Texas Department of Agriculture about this matter and they were investigating the case but the man who had the case has been moved to another office. So I will have to start over with them. Thank you so much for your help. Blessings, **** ******

I have refunded the $250. Someone will be out to remove the stations later this month. Thanks.
