This complaint is regarding 14 medical claims from 9-13-2024 to 10-10-2024. Their United Healthcare medical claim numbers are: ER21082734, ER51266597, ER51293130, ER51293136, ER51293146, ER51294833, ER51294835, ER75795143, ER75833895, ER75857854, ER75857917, ER75857919, ER99918235, and ER99977260.I went to the office of Total Men's Healthcare in **********, ***** where I was told they offer Allergy Immunotherapy by a 3rd party provider in their office. I was concerned about the cost of this and so they reached out to my insurance and were told that the service would be covered at a 90% rate because my healthcare plan has no deducible on the individual plan. When I reached out to ***************** about this, they had said that this isn't the case and that the claims were submitted under my family plan where I have a $4,800 deductible to meet which left me responsible for ~$3,400 in medical bills. I only agreed to these services to begin with because they were supposed to be affordable at the cost of several hundred dollars for a year's worth of treatments that came out to about $4 per week after the initial visit that was $******* that I've got a bill for $3,370 I'm not sure what to do. I can't pay this bill, but I've also already started treatment and am satisfied with the services, other than the billing issue. I've appealed this with *****************, but they said it's not their fault and that the balance remains the same. I feel like I got scammed with misinformation saying that the service provided was going to be substantially cheaper than it actually was and now I'm left to foot the bill for the mistakes that were made by the conversations between the provider and the *****************. If these services were going to be this expensive, I'd have never started them. I called Total Men's and they informed me that I'm legally obligated for the bill and will set up a payment plan, but no discounted rate. This company has shady business practices.

    Business response

Hi ****** - I want to truly apologize for any miscommunication.

Of course with any insurance - our estimates is always an estimate of what insurance will cover. That said - I completely understand that the estimate was very far from what your insurance covered.

It looks like the team member that you talked to was under the impression that you were looking for a payment plan. After your message here - we understand the full situation and would like to offer you a discount. Our Billing Director will be reaching out to help set you up on that. I hope that resolves your concerns.

Thank you again for trusting us with your care.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I have been working with ****** ****** this week from the billing department and she's been very helpful in navigating this. I currently signed up for the cash program online and added a credit card for automatic billing. ****** said there would be someone that can apply a 50% discount code to that subscription so that's what I'm waiting on now. I did get $50 off the first month only from a coupon I found online so that was helpful.

I understand that the price given at the office is just an estimate, but $4 a week compared to the bill I received was a way different number and I felt taken advantage of when United Healthcare and Total Men's made it sound like I was on the hook for it and there was nothing anyone could do. I also had to pay $600 out of pocket to even start the treatments to get an Epi Pen for emergencies so I felt already hooked in.

Other than that big bill, I've actually really been enjoying the treatments and they've been helping me feel better already. Thank you for helping me find a way where I can still get my treatments and everyone is happy with the outcome.

    Regards,

    ****** *******
