We paid David at P&D's Mobile RV Service $2,215 in November 2021 to install new axles on our 1989 Scamp 16' travel trailer. The parts were provided for David by us. David welded on a new cross member and then bolted the new axles to it. On March 18, 2022 the cross member of the axles completely separated from the camper frame, causing major floor damage to the camper as the axle rolled behind the camper. No other vehicles were present, no obstacles or objects in the roadway. We were traveling around 15mph at the time of the incident when a large jolt was felt in the vehicle and a loud bang was heard from the camper. Looking in the rear-view mirror, the camper was seen tilting and appearing to fall over on its side. Upon investigating the damages, we discovered the entire axle assembly had completely separated from the camper frame and was precariously sitting at the rear of the camper with the camper balancing on one tire. The wrecker, firefighter and sheriff's deputy at the scene all stated they had never seen anything like this where an axle had completely fallen off a camper or vehicle. It was the opinion of all parties present at the site of the incident that poor welding was the cause for the damages. On initial contact with David regarding the incident he agreed to make it right and fix the camper. He discussed bringing the camper back to his shop and fixing everything. Since the camper is a few hours away and immobile we told him we would rather have a shop do the work out there instead of attempting transport in its current state. David seemed in agreement and told us to have the shop give him a quote and he would pay for it. A week after the initial conversation he insisted on us providing extensive documentation of the incident and that it could take 90 days to complete an investigation. All documentation has been provided and David is now difficult to reach and will not provide visibility on what is happening nor has any solution been offered.
